suma-ya-c's Journal, 13 Oct 23

When I saw this, my first reaction was one of disappointment. Then I remembered how difficult shifting 0.1kg can be, and now I’m just grateful for the drop.
I have a funeral to attend next week and I’m extremely nervous. It is a dear friend who would have become family if things had been different. Having never attended a funeral as an adult (I avoid them like the plague) because I can’t bear to go, I wish I knew what to do..sigh. She died suddenly and I’ve been trying hard not to go crazy with emotional eating.

Thanks Anne and Heather. I won’t know many people there. My ex and I are friendly but his mum and I have always remained great friends even through the break up and beyond. She’s a kindred spirit and I was planning to catch up with her over coffee next month. The whole thing is just so shocking…I can’t quite believe she’s gone. If I wasn’t going alone, I’d feel less nervous I think.

So sorry for your loss, Suma. Whatever happens, I think you will feel better that you were there. Not a nice part of life, for sure. x

That is a sad loss for you, Suma. It's difficult going on your own to funerals.

i feel for you. you can try and prepare yourself as much as you can but the reality of it all can come at you like a steam train. this seems to me to be because we all know it happens, we all know it will happen to us but still somehow it is just unbelievable. my husband died after a relatively short but unbearable miserable illness nearly 15 months ago. there are days when i just dont believe it, cant believe that someone is alive one minute and gone forever the next. so go and say your own goodbye to this person you are missing already but then let her live on in your thoughts and memories and most of all look after yourself. take care. be strong

Don't force yourself if you don't feel up to it. Honour and celebrate your friend in your own way, in your own time. So sorry for your loss x

Thanks Nikina, yes I think I will go to say goodbye. A very sobering reminder of how fragile life really is.

Thanks Anne, I was considering taking someone but I think I’ll be ok. My friend’s husband has reached out to say he really wants me there etc, so feeling more reassured. Incredible how generous and kind people are while they are going through the worst chapter of their lives.

Thanks Jennie for your kind comment. I’m so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine the grief you’re going through. I don’t think we ever ‘get over’ certain losses. They take a piece of us with them. Good luck with your weight loss journey…we have the same target.

Thanks Jolitt, yes I’m going with what feels right. That may change but yes it’s about honoring one of the kindest and generous women I have ever met.
