wholefoodnut's Journal, 27 Oct 14

My thoughts tonight. There are many on this site who get annoyed with posts deviating from the diet and exercise theme. Mine often do that, they do deviate. But I have found my weight loss journey has affected every aspect of my life.

My outlook on my life has improved. I have discovered part of my journey is dependent on feeling good about every part of my life. If I do not feel good I have a really good chance of gaining those 60+ pounds back.

Things I do to make my home better and organized, activities with my family, a stressful day at work, everything affects how I feel, how I handle stress. It's all part of my plan to improve me, improving things in my life makes me feel better about myself, that in turn leads to me being healthier and sticking to my health plan.

This is a plan to be healthier in all aspects, and much of my journey has been propelled by other fat secret members. I do not my mental state to go back in time where I felt out of control, useless, and depressed.

I leave my journal public, it is mine. I love the input of others but please don't tell me not to put my everyday life and trials in it. It relevant to me. I'm sure others feel the same.

Jeri, everything you do is a movement, which is exercise. You have the right to say anything you want in your journal. People should respect that. ♥

There have again been comments on other journals out there lately, they annoyed me, not on mine, and felt badly for the poster. I just thought I would post my feelings about them and relate them to my posts that are often about my life, not always losing weight but to me all about my journey for an all round healthier me mentally a well as physically.

"This is a plan to be healthier in all aspects, and much of my journey has been propelled by other fat secret members." Yes. To me, FS is a community of people committed to respecting their bodies, and therefore, their lives. I have started regularly logging on to FS even though I don't really need motivation or validation. I just like relating to people who honor themselves and live their lives with purpose.

Thanks for writing this journal post. I can't imagine why anyone would waste their time writing negative comments on other's posts. As HCB said, if they don't like it they can choose not to read it. I, for one, process the change in my new lifestyle through my writing, reading other people's posts regarding how they are processing their changes, as well as reading books, talking to friends and family, and even watching motivational videos. It would be a sad day for me if I was unable to log on to FS and see posts by other people on this journey...So again, thanks Jeri for addressing this subject.

The way we feel and the stress or happiness we experience all has to do with how we interact with food. 99.9 percent eat from emotions as I do. We all need to do what is best us. Keep doing what you're doing.

I've seen several posts lately on various journals that, just hit me wrong as I was reading through them. People commented that they thought they did not pertain to the topic of the site and basically said they shouldn't be posting their comments. These were comments on journals, not discussion threads nor were they spam. These were not people I regularly talk to was just going through the featured posts and the community journal section. I felt the were out of line.

I get off subject a lot. Most of the time it's from something I read in the original post or one of the comments. What's wrong with discussing other things that don't pertain to your diet or exercise. It's always mixed in with diet or exercise talk, or some ones just conversing about their activity for the day. It's not like the original post is entirely about widgets. I also enjoy reading about peoples trial and tribulations, which by the way, is usually the reason for someone's failure or success in their diet or exercise for the day. Keep posting as you wish, most of us enjoy the human touch.

I think it's refreshing to read different things. It doesn't have to all be about workouts and diet. We are all people here, and our lives are not just diet and exercise. And if people don't like it then they can just move right along!

Please deviate. I think first time losers are more inclined to concentrate on weight and diet only. They think all they need is to reach that goal, and they will be done. We are here for a long run, and we already figured out that it is not just about calories. Everything that happens in our lives impacts our health and habbits. It is so important to have a safe place to express ourselves. It is only when we share our experiences and feelings that we can put it all in perspective. We are coming here to support friends and share our journeys, not just track the numbers. And again, if somebody does not like what we write in our journals, they can chose not to read them.

I'm totally with you wholefoodnut. "DEVIATE" away. You're right - its a part of the whole package and we only lose the weight when all aspects of our life are in balance and we are in a peaceful place. I for one love to read about you and yours and your Projects and trips out. It makes FS a brighter place when buddies share their journals. x Kelly x

@Ingria - I agree with your comments 100%

I know lots of you of the same, there are a few who ardently don't. Your stories of what you are doing in your lives gave helped me so much. I started just putting in diet/exercise and as my journey progressed realized it was also about everything in my life. Not just losing weight but being happy and content with my whole life was part of that life style change.

Of course all these things are important! If weight loss was only about food we'd all be skinny. Journal on SISTER!

I wholeheartedly agree, my dear wholefoodnut friend! My eating is absolutely tied to my thoughts, feelings & emotions, so to be my best, I too need to address it all... and am so thrilled to have you sharing your journey too. As you so wisely said, that sharing is how we grow & learn. xoxox

I ditto everything everyone else said. It's your journal and I consider myself blessed to be able to read it. You inspire and encourage me every day with your sharing. And the fact is we HAVE to learn a way to incorporate our life into this arena because it lives and breathes around food and exercise every day. Sure, we could just enter cals & exercise, but then we'd not need a journal. Ignore it and continue sharing your life with us. Some day you'll learn to upload photos and we'll get to see those stairs!

Have to buy a laptop, this dang tablet will not cut and paste. Still working on the stairs, bit by bit they will get done. No laptop till after Christmas. My beginning of this was nothing said to me but various comments I saw skipping through journals a few days when I just pulled up the journal section, don't remember names, just felt bad for the people who had posted them and received comments that they were not talking specifically about diet or exercise.

I agree with you totally Wholefoodnut. I probably have read some of these same comments. Actually, I felt ashamed for the people who tried to make others feel bad. Seemed pretty narrow minded. Everything is connected. Lifestyle, food choices, exercise , stress inducers, work, family, our pasts, etc. that made us the people we are. Journals are very individual. If someone doesn't like someone elses journal, then don't read it, and certainly don't respond negatively. Being a buddy is exactly that...trying to help, be there for support, and being an "ear" in case someone wants to vent. No one is perfect, we are all here for a reason. So many people want to hear input from people who have been there, done that. Helps us all feel like we are not alone in our quests for a healthier life. Helpful tips, suggestions, ideas are all welcome in my journals, or I would have made them private.
