wholefoodnut's Journal, 02 May 17

My first day of May, first day back at work with new lenses went well. Using the weakest cheater glasses to see the computer and paperwork. That could still change over the next month.

Food was good, on plan and a bit less than 1200 calories. We had a lunch break for the first time in months but probably not again for awhile. We lose a strong team mate today as he is moving to another position.

I did most of a light standing abs workout last night, which felt pretty good staying within my restrictions. Hoping to get released tomorrow to go back to working out. I'm missing my TRX workouts even though they have sporadic through tax season.

Awaiting a book on raising chickens as well that I ordered yesterday. I'm considering getting a couple layers next year. We can have them here in my area though no roosters (not that I would want one anyway). I had chickens years ago in the country once but as their pen wasn't strong enough they were killed by coyotes before they were old enough for eggs. I want to make sure I have a coop and pen that will stand up to our pesky raccoons, possums, hawks and foxes. I also need to plan a portable pen that can be moved around the yard so they have access like free range chickens and still be protected--I live on the edge of woods that go for a couple miles down to the river.

If you are reading this and wondering what chickens have to do with health. Fresh flavorful eggs and also chickens are great for cleaning up a garden and fertilizing it at the same time. Popping them in a fenced raised bed in the fall is good for them and me. Besides I'm really a country person living in a city neighborhood.

:0) I love chickens. My grammy had chickens - one was named Amy and she laid brown eggs. Glad it was a good Monday. Warmer each day.

Raising your own livestock certainly insures clean food, so I tip my hat to you. Do you slaughter them yourself?

Cool a chicken named after you! Will be interesting if I do this in the city, just thinking and doing some research at the moment. If I do I want to have a coop etc done this fall so it's ready for Spring. Spring is so busy. I have a neighbor who is getting a couple this year. Warming up here as well.

Glen, congrats to you DD on her new home! Soonsoonsoon, I tried that once back in the 80's with chickens, did not work out well. I am thinking 2-3 laying hens for eggs. If I do I won't get them until next spring as I need to plan ahead.

I feel relieved, as I have an image of you, and wielding an axe would be incongruent.
