Somewhere I missed the part about you getting broken into. WHAT the heck. I hope you weren't home while this happened, and that you're okay. It's such a violation, I'm so sorry to hear this. Take care of yourself. K

Bill I will have to look that book up, you have steered me right in the past. I wasn't home. I had left Christmas Eve day around 3:00 and came home the Sat after Christmas about 11am to find my house back doors open and many things ransacked and stolen. They also ripped the entire frame out of a small basement window. It could have been much worse especially as that weekend there was so much damage from tornados and floods south and eat of us. Most is replaceable except the jewelry that belonged to my Mom and grandmothers and gifts, only one piece was worth much but sentimental. Sentimental value has no price tag. Electronics, cameras and tools were also taken. They also opened up my basement frig and freezer allowing everything to thaw or get too warm to safely keep. Mostly a PTA. Luckily I have replacement value on my insurance and the jewelry will make the deductible (I can't replace it) so electronics, tools, and damage will be covered. So today is a day to work on paperwork and take an ice skating break(indoor), It's 2 degrees this morning. I've gotten to where I accept that there are things that I cannot control so deal with it and not let them screw up my life too much. I will be putting some sort of bars on my basement windows on recommendation from the police.

I missed you posting about this before, Jeri, I am glad you are safe. We had the house in cleveland when we were still trying to sell it get broken into and the pipes cut out, walls busted open etc to get to them. just for them to make $50-$100. from the copper? Cost us $1000s to get it all replaced and that really sucked. We did not file the ins as we were not occupying the home at the time and there were things in the Ins policy that would cause our rate to skyrocket because of that so we had to eat it and hire ppl to just fix it. We ended up selling the house quick at a loss just to avoid future incidents. Of course we did not put copper back into the house. But The sense of being invaded still irks me and I worry every time we leave here on vacations or business trips.

So very sorry you are having to go through this. Re-organizing sounds like a good plan to help get rid of fear & negative feelings about it. My thoughts are definitely with you....

I am happy to hear that you are pulling things together. I know from personal experience the emotions involved in knowing someone was in your home and the disrespect they showed for you and your belongings just sucks. Sadly, those feelings can linger long after you have cleaned up and the insurance is sorted out. I hope you are successful in clearing out some of the negative stuff!

Oh my goodness Kelly that would have been awful. I feel lucky except for the inherited jewelry that I cannot replace. Just remembered my Great Uncle's pocket watch that was going to one of my grandson's.

Your in my thoughts and prayers I've been there but I didn't have so much damage just the loss of jewelry that I couldn't replace, it was my mothers. It makes you feel so violated. My break in was also at Christmas time 30 years ago but it does leave a mark on one.
