wholefoodnut's Journal, 04 Oct 15

Per the long range forecast the weather will be warmer next weekend. I have processed lots of herbs today, my house smells so good with herbs drying here and there. Many have been planted in pots in hopes of surviving the winter and providing fresh options throughout the winter, some frozen coated with a bit of olive oil to use like fresh herbs in cooking or salad dressings.

I also gave some over abundant ones to a neighbor who loves herbs (not the 87 yo one). She brought me some the other day that are also drying. We share a love of using natural things so we share. It is good to have some nice neighbors in this era of people not knowing those who live near them. Even though Hazel (87yo)comes and camps out for hours it is good to have nice neighbors, I do so appreciate them in many ways.

I haven't accomplished the mowing or trimming but have accomplished quite a bit on this chilly day only 52 so far, no sun, so it simply feels cold today. Now to figure out where the pots of plants will live for the winter. They are all crammed into my kitchen mostly on temp shelving. I love having plants in my kitchen.

I've decided my crazy pup needs a friend. She is still terribly missing my pup who died in March. I could really see her joy in playing with my DD's dog when I was there a few weeks ago. I ordered a cage today as I have decided future pups will be cage trained. I was leery of doing that but I have seen how well it has worked with DD's dog (same age as mine). I should have it by Wed. I did go to a shelter yesterday but the rescue pup I was interested in needed someone home most of the time, not something I can do. Will check another out maybe tomorrow.

Glad you got your herbs in, and a good idea to get a pal for your dog, they don't really like being on their own, do they? Cage is a good idea too.

I'd love to have another dog so that Tika would have someone to play with other than me. It would keep the dogs that walk past outside our fence from being whined at too. Love my puppy.

Years after my last English Bulldog died I used petfinder.com when I was ready for another dog. I was no longer able to lift an English Bulldog into my van or tub, so I measured my laundry room sink and started looking for a dog that would fit. I also spent weeks researching dog breeds in Harper's Illustrated Handbook of Dogs, edited by Roger Caras. This book gives the following information about each listed breed: general characteristics, personality, ideal appearance, potential heath problems, care and exercise, puppies, and finally a general comment and recommendation. Good luck~ every adopted animal is a life saved.
