Thinking a lot today about the ads on the TV and radio. So many are these magic weight loss schemes: they promise incredible weight lose by using their product with NO work. They are a lot of BS and annoy me. These companies are bilking their customers out of thousands of dollars when they can modify their diet, exercise and lose weight interesting healthy manner and not spend all those $$$ on stuff that doesn't work in the long run. Sorry ticks me off.

People at work ask me what I think about these, I tell them thoughts. They all know I've lost weight, rather obvious. They go away and spend their hard earned $$ on crap diets and supplements, then tell me they can't follow a diet. Tell them again and it goes round and round.

Eat a diet of a reasonable calorie amount healthy whole foods, don't take unnecessary drugs, exercise and you will eventually get to a healthy weight. If you do low carb follow that plan with whole foods and exercise. Do it! Do it! Log your food and exercise it works!

I was thinking the same thing the other day. I listen to the radio on my phone when I walk and there are three different ads for some miracle weight loss supplement. I think they are all the same people and just have three different names and phone numbers. It's always "if you need to lose 30 pounds or more" and I love the part about "legitimate reasons." So annoying. As IF swallowing a magic pill and eating what you want and not exercising is going to magically lose weight. Or and the debt relief and the diamond stores lol. I like Mondays. Monday music marathon. No ads.

I completely agree with you. Pills and pricey miracle plans just seem like a waste to me. I'd much rather spend that money picking out fresh veggies from a farmer's market (and blowing my hard earned money on new running shoes.)

I'm with you on this. Ads play on image and quick fixes. Also the image and interjection that these offerings are in some way a glamorous thing to do. Companies spend billions with psychogists on staff and those surveys some take to tweek you where one is the most vulnerable.

I agree with you Wholefoodnut, those ads are sickening. I have been drawn into it many times in my life and NOTHING works but good sensible eating and exercise is the only way to do it....I learned my lesson spent many $$$$ and for what..If it was that easy to just take a pill the whole world would be skinny...Shame on them for deceiving people into thinking they are getting help when the only thing they are getting is false hopes and empty pocket books..

I think society has advanced so much that the simple (eat good food) solution doesn't seem as possible as all the promises made with the weight loss 'stuff'.

Only the lazy (and stupid) people are punished with this commercial BS in my opinion. If someone realy believes that the kilo's wil just vanish this way by paying some money then you deserve it. I know it sounds harsh but we all have to work real hard to get or stay in good shape, pain sweat tears hunger etc. So i think its their own fault that they buy this shit, eventually they will learn that you can't buy a healthy body. You have to work for it and thats good!

I've just been noticing that there so many ads for weight loss magic, probably more than 50% of the radio ads I heard the last few days have been those magic solutions. The ads must work to draw people into their hype. I just keep on telling people eat healthy, cut out the sodas, junk food, and processed add exercise. Eat healthy, move more; basic theory.

Intsantcrazy, tried to watch the video, kept saying not found. Probably me not typing it in right. My dogs are silly, don't think they would let me dress them up, though.

I don't think people who fall for it are lazy or stupid.. I think we just have a large population of people who grew up with it being advertised to the point it seems like the way to go. My Grandmother was always chewing those 'aids' and going to Weight WAtchers when I was a little girl. These 'aides' were little caramels that were to be taken with a hot cup of water before a meal. Of course, the hot cup of water before the meal was likely the 'thing' that helped curb the appetite. Growing up in a household watching Mom take dexatrim and then her taking me to a doctor (and I use that term loosely) to get 'diet shots' (likely speed considering I was up at 2am vacuuming the drive way) .. well, after a while it all seems normal. That was the way to loose weight. Starve, pills, shots. That's why I am so thrilled to have found this site. Eat? I can EAT? Waiiiit a minuuutee.... this can't be the solution. And in no way at all do I consider myself stupid or lazy. It's just conditioning.

If you read the fine print on all these miracle weight loss solutions, they all say that actual weight loss depends on a person's diet and exercise and that these examples may not be typical to all users. The "miracle solution" do work to some extent, but I think the main reason why they work for some people, is the placebo effect. They believe it will work, so it works for awhile. I've been there, done that and whatever success I had vanished quickly, and in most cases winded up with more weight than I started with. I was on the miracle pills Phen-Phen in the 90's, lost 90 lbs on them real fast. I couldn't stop moving, I was on overdrive. There was a lot of bad news about these pills saying they were dangerous to take, so I stopped. In less than 1 year after getting off them, I gained about 150 lbs. How many pills over the years were on the market for a number of years and then banned because they were found to be dangerous. We need more regulation from the FDA on diet and nutrition supplements.

PS - What do you think losing 90 lbs and regaining 150 lbs in less than two years did to my body? It had to take it's toll. I agree with all of you, a sensible, balanced diet along with exercise, and you will lose weight. Throw in staying away from fast foods, sweets, soda and junk foods and you will succeed. Sorry about rambling.

Wholefoodnut go to YouTube and search Last Week Tonight Dr Oz. It's a funny video but sadly true about just what this journal is saying. Chillie Willie you should watch it too. It touches on why there isn't more FDA regulation. FullaBella your mom and your dr gave you speed as a kid to lose weight?? That's horrible! I'm so sorry!

Yup... this faze of 'loving myself at any size' is taking a LOT of work considering my Grandmother was feeding me those aides and my mother giving me all sorts of heaven only knows to lose weight. They were both overweight themselves and I guess I was their great hope to 'not' be or just an embarrassment. Who woulda thunk it could be done just with food. Not them. Like Willie - the toll on my body from four massive weight losses.. well, it's amazing I'm here. I remember that and love myself with saggy skin and depleted energy - this body has been thru a lot.
