Back from vacation visiting my brother in Berkeley and just pounding the water now to flush out all the sodium consumed (a low amount for most, but high for me).

There was lots of walking daily and on hills, too, so that was great. Breakfasts were simply fruit & coffee, a habit my brother and I have shared since high school. Lunches were big salads or power bowls, dinners were both out and at home, depending on our activity for the day.

Environment was key. No junk food in their house, the only stocked snack food was nuts, and we roasted our own seeds from squash. My SIL is Chinese, and prepping dinner (stirfries and roasted vegetables) was more social than actually eating it. We all pitched in with chopping the veggies and then walked the dog for an hour afterwards. Stretching sessions in the living room while watching movies, off to the studio for yoga on Sunday. Overall, a pretty chill holiday.

I tracked my food as best I could last week, but the basic trend was that eating in restaurants = higher sodium, and I had less protein than when I cook at home. Nice change of pace, but glad to be grinding it out again.

So even though I hate calorie counting, I am doing experimental tracking this week while traveling for Thanksgiving. My brother and his partner are both thin so I'm not worried about landing in an environment of gluttonous food and behavior.

I planned & recorded today's meals and tomorrow will pack an apple and ziplock bag of almonds for an airport lunch. Dinner at my brother's will be homecooked, likely Chinese.

Exercise will mostly be walking all week, and I'm bringing a couple of my resistance bands for bedroom workouts since they pack very lightly.

Losing weight while doing resistance training 6 days a week feels like pulling teeth.😡 I know that I'm going to have to increase my cardio in order to torch the calories. When I was doing half-marathons it was easy to stay trim & fit, but my left knee is no longer able to handle the pounding since I hyperextended it during a race 4 years ago. I've been keeping my exercise low impact ever since.

So the mirror reflects a body heavier than I'm used to, and I look FIT-FAT. (This is a variation of Skinny-Fat, which pretty much describes most thin smokers that I know.) I have glorious muscles that I've been cultivating for over 2 years now, but they are smothered by 15 pounds of top-coat blubber. The result is a bulkier body with muted definition. Stomach is hard and flat but you can't see my 6 pack yet, and thighs still smoosh and rub together when walking. Grrrrrrr!!!!🤬

I need to put my head down and bust a sweat rather than peruse social media. More time online means less time working out.

We had our annual Thanksgiving party at work today. Catered, lovely, but the only healthy things to eat were the turkey and garden salad (healthy meaning not exploding with added sugars, sky-high sodium, and saturated fat).

I didn't bust my butt this summer in lowering my cholesterol levels to start backsliding at the kick-off of holiday parties, so I just ate like a reasonable vegan: big garden salad dressed with vinegar and a single glass of pinot noir*. Calories stayed in check and I'm satiated since the salad was chock full of fiber and nutrients. I feel good about my choice. I work with mostly thin colleagues, and everyone had the salad. I think the people who were doing IF and OMAD were more challenged than me today.

* Being California, offices are fairly loose about wine & booze during work hours. My line of business is probably more accepting and generous than average, though.🍾🍷🥂
