In my area drinking on company time is not allowed typically. The company parties have no alcohol available. They also don't have much healthy food unless the party is held at a buffet.

@Breezy: prior to Covid, I would have had everything and gone back for seconds! So it is a 180 for me to turn down all that free food. @Otb: There's also the stigma of being the fat employee amongst a sea of fit bodies. My old fat self wouldn't have cared during the meal but would have been embarrassed later at my desk 😟. @Morticia: I work with many, many PhD's, but they're not the medical type. So all food events are catered and the booze flows freely!🍷🍷🍷 We even have monthly happy hours where they wheel in kegs into the conference room.

JB, you are a great example for all of us! The up-coming holiday season will be challenging for most. I think it is wonderful that you share your journey / past challenges with us. It illustrates the phenomenal results that can be achieved by resisting the “just for the holidays” mentality! Thanks for your honesty.

Keep in mind that food is neither good nor bad. It is generally the amount that people eat as well as the frequency that they indulge in the types of foods that are least conducive to long term weight control.

JB, I did look into past posts before I decided to follow you. You're focused and determined, and I appreciate that. 11 months to T2 :-) I suggest wearing something that will remind you of your goal. A band/bangle on your wrist? Or a 'ballcap' lol

@AverageDude and @Kenna: If you are on medication or a special diet because of chronic illness like diabetes or kidney disease, there are most certainly BAD Foods. Trying to justify your own way of eating here by enticing others to go back to eating foods that caused their health problems in the first place is like telling an alcoholic to treat their hangover with the Hair Of The Dog.

@Karen40Poole: Thank you! Workplace food is my own Achilles Heel, but I know others share the struggle of turning down free food anywhere, be it samples at Costco, parties, or even the candy dish by the bank tellers. I use Fat Secret mostly to journal about my old habits and the mental struggle to propel myself to health again -- the positive thoughts and the negative ones -- whether successful or not. @Morticia: it's not just my office that provides happy hours -- it's the line of work I'm in. They're all like that.🥂

I don’t understand the obsession many people have with “free food” . Depending on what is being served and the choice a person makes, there is actuall a big price

JustBananas- I was a dialysis nurse for 8 years. You are preaching to the choir.

@Kenna: Have you never heard of taste buds? The hormones that get triggered from salty mashed potatoes or a piece of cake: dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, oxytocin? No one ever puts out a plate of celery at the office. It's candies and donuts. The effects of eating food that is bad for you is not always immediately punishing. Just like it takes time to develop lung cancer. FS is full of dieters that need help in establishing boundaries. So yes, some food is BAD, in that it will only serve to worsen health, not redirect the mind and body to reaching for healthy food choices.

I am in CA and my work is very concerned about drinking during Office functions etc. They go so far as to pay for Uber on the ride home if needed. Our Agents could lose their licenses if they get a DUI.

@Breezy: A well-needed jolt, Thank you, Grrlll 😮🏋🏻♀️💪🏻 PM sent. @RedHotFox: Funny how the employers will keep the booze flowing and just add Uber, instead of nixing the alcohol and saving $ on rideshare services. 🤣🎉🥂 Yup, that's California business, rallying around and helping out our world-famous Vineyards.
