wholefoodnut's Journal, 16 Jun 15

I pushed my exercise up a notch today either more weight or more reps. I also added a couple more not done the last time. An hour and a half later my muscles are still quivering in places even with a longer than usual stretch out after. It really felt good working out today.

I'm crashed on the couch with a cup of tea at the moment any chores will be put off until tomorrow, a rest day for me for exercise. DD and granddaughter will be here this weekend. This means basketball games as GD is playing. It will be a good day to catch up on some house chores so I'm ready for them on Friday.

An avocado for dinner really upped my calories today..

I will probably regret not keeping up moving after my workout.

Good for you! I seem to always go heavier with my weights like today 25lb and ekk out a few reps, then if too hard, I go down to 20lb or 15lb and finish the reps. It does build muscle more effectively!

Good job pushing yourself. I hope you bounce right back. I think it is a great idea to shake things up a bit when your body gets used to your routine.

I'm impressed you both do such a great job with lifting weights. I can only lift 10lbs in each hand.

Ouch Glen!!! Hope you are OK. Just getting back into this after a couple months of no gym feels awesome. I am doing more than I was expecting. Kiwinana, now I don't do big free weights. I do a lot of the resistant weight machines, those vary of course depending on which one. I am starting to add some free weights as I do have dumbells at home as well. I added more reps o the TRX and a different position. I'm looking up the TRX on line before Thursday to add another on there, it feels soo good.

Kiwinana, you are Zumba with weights right? That is an incredible workout. I can't do zumba as it's too high impact for my knees and ankles. I do strength that is slow and steady paying attention to form and add more weight when I can do a bunch of reps easily/ At that point the reps usually decrease until I build it back up again.

Love TRX, too! Very challenging using our own body weight!

Recently, a trainer at the gym set me up with a new workout on the weight machines. The first set is at the normal weight that I had been doing. The second set is a heavier weight (as heavy has you can do and still keep good form), but only a handful of reps. The third set is a lighter weight, but a bunch of reps. It definitely feels like those muscles are working hard.

I do that too sometimes Izzy, and will again. The gym trainer had suggested that to me as well. It's a good way to try out a heavier weight and not overdo initially. Right now on most I'm tying to get back up to what I was doing before bronchitis side tracked me in March and not end too sore to move LOL. It feels so good to be back doing the workouts. I've added some that I wasn't doing before and will continue adding to my basic routine. HCB, I would love a TRX at home, not sure where I would put it. Dang my living room is slowly turning into a small gym! I need to start registering for their give-away, maybe I'd get lucky.

LOL! When does your living room give out free membership workout's? I am glad you are getting more out of your workout's. I need to just get started. It sound's like you have a great weekend planned with family and that is ALWAYS something to look forward to.

Yes on Thursdays I do Zumba with weights, however it's not heavy weights they won't let you use more than 3lbs in each hand incase of injury. Also it's not as high impact as the regular zumba. You can go at your own pace anyway alot of people there do that. I like to do weights and I am starting to work them in more to my weekly workouts. You are smart to pay attention to your form. Good luck with your workouts. :)

Pterath, one of the advantages of living in the city is gyms close by, When I lived in the country it was a dang long ways to anywhere! I had lots of exercise though just taking care of a huge garden, animals, hauling wood, You name it. I loved living in the country though.

Kiwinana, cool that it is a low impact one. I have learned that you can get hurt if you don't pay attention to how you use your body. I worked in a PT dept for awhile years ago and have been through a ton of PT myself.

I live in a small town in the sticks. No garden... yet. we did potted plants last year but this year the remodel had me forgetting and now it is late for our growing season and time is still a crunch. But I was more motivated to exercise in a gym than here. And my reg job is a desk job which leads to sedentary when I do not have a project even a minor one. *sighs* I will figure it out.

IPterath, used to live outside of a town less than 200. I understand that. Also have had a few years that life was totally in the way of planting a garden!!
