I tried a recipe from the world vegetarian cookbook. A tarka which is an Indian oil based sauce to top legumes. This was cumin, dried chilies, and onion in olive oil with a bit of an Indian herb asafetida which smells awful in the jar but cooked adds flavor and health benefits. It was used on split mung beans, I had messed up and added water thinking they had longer to cook and they were almost done so had to cook those down some. I heated up some leftover cooked lentils and oh it was delish. That and the last of the chopped salad and a quick easy dinner. The mung beans will be used later.

I've been decreasing my dulera (asthma preventative) so am down to one puff twice a day instead of 2; have used the rescue inhaler once Saturday due to feeling short of breath (my O2 levels were only 97) so not too bad and no other times since the day after I eliminated dairy. What a change from 4-5 times a day! I will have to discuss this with a co-worker friend who is struggling with her asthma.

Thinking about this: I have also not had beer or meat during that time, so maybe it is a combination of all. Once the Greek yogurt is gone won't replace it, i'm using about 1/4 cup in my morning smoothie. Time to get ready for work.

The tarka sounds good. I use asafoetida in my Indian cooking too. You're right - it smells awful in the jar but gives a lovely umami flavour to the dish. So pleased to hear that your asthma has improved. What a difference a change of diet has made.

Doobrie, I have to hold my breath to use it. Fish sauce for Thai etc dishes is almost as bad, I won't use it unless it is cooked. Definitely adds flavor as do mashed anchovies in Italian sauces.

Can't bear the smell or taste of fish WFN. If we go to a Thai restaurant I always make sure they don't put fish sauce in mine. Unfortunately my hubby loves fish and keeps ordering it when we're out 😟.

Doobrie, Oh dear, not liking the smell could be a problem with the DH. I like fish when it is cooked really well. I will choose fish or seafood in many situations. Raw fresh fish shouldn't smell fishy.

What a wonderful change! 🙋🏻 asthma medications are nasty to have to take so I'm so glad you are finding out part of your triggers so you can cut back. This is exciting news! 🙆🏻
