Penlan's Journal, 10 Jan 16

Ok, it's official, I just don't think I can do this.

I have upped my sodium intake to round a gram, and even as much as a gram and a half. It is a struggle and it makes me feel thirsty and dehydrated. I have done it for a few days, it just doesn't suit me and seems counter intuitive.

I have eaten in my current way for 3 1/2 years. Pretty low carb (due to no grains and pulses) and low sodium because I don't add salt to my food and don't eat processed food. I also drink a lot of water, typically 4 or 5 litres a day. I am also physically active.

I have heard that this situation will wreck my sodium/potassium balance and I will end up with headaches, cramps and seizures. Nope, still waiting for that to happen. How long do I wait??

I reckon the problem with sodium potassium imbalances may well apply to folks who are not properly hydrated and low in potassium due to low veg consumption. As that ain't me, I'll keep on with the way I know works for me.

I can't say I didn't try, I read the advice, did the self experiment and drew my own conclusions for myself. If I start to have symptoms I will add salt, as active symptoms would show I need it, I guess.

Knowledge is key, and there is no better knowledge than careful observation of personal experience. We are all different.
