Wow - there might be worms in my hot compost bin - it hasn't gotten hot yet so, maybe. Read up on vermicomposting but I was worried the worms might get out or that I might not get around to feeding them enough. Hope it goes well for you.

Sharon❤️ Do it with me!🪱 You can vermicompost outdoor if you’re apprehensive about worms crawling out of the bin in your kitchen (it doesn’t happen though, not a single worm escaped my bin so far). Come spring, I plan to bury a dollar store mesh basket in my garden bed as a mini inground worm compost system. That way worms can roam freely in the garden bed and spread their castings. As far as feeding is concerned, they really don’t need much, they can survive by eating the cardboard paper you use for their bedding. If you overfeed them, the bin gets rancid and the worms will escape. My bin smells like earth after rain and it’s delightful. No odor, no fruit flies whatsoever. Trust me, you’d be smittened by those red wigglers. Let’s do it, let’s bond over Vermicomposting 🪱

John, how’s Annapurna today? I was overjoyed when I read your new experience, and maybe a bit jealous. You make dinner for buffalo, I make dinner for 🪱 Should we exchange recipes?

Ashley Aserver, what are you growing in your garden bed? Worm composting is such a great depression buster🪴🪱 I have a spiral garden which I plan to revive, and hopefully worms thrive there. There’s a frog pond next to it but I learned that frogs don’t care for worms. So much to learn🥰

Right now I only have garlic growing, but I have some pepper starts in the basement! Gardening is relaxing and rewarding 😃 yes, I can't imagine frogs would like worms. What kinds of frogs are there? What is a spiral garden?

Yfritz - Well, I did buy a thing last fall to compost in the raised bed…https://youtu.be/CENAGcrv1TE?si=-XpipwZBSxt-zPrX this could be my outside worm resort! OK, first step, get it buried. Its 25 degrees F in Michigan so, not today. But I just may be motivated.

yfritz 😆 they make dinner for buffalo here and buffalo for dinner 😬 … They could use your good compost here. It’s typical to burn unused plant matter ahead of the monsoon… And the mountains are majestic to be sure. In western Nepal I had a nice view of Dhaulagiri. Now I’m back in Pokhara and Machhapuchchhre sits tall.

Not a picture I love saying Happy Birthday on! 😂 But, I hope you have a wonderful day!!! I posted a little Japanese greeting for you on my journal. Wasn't sure if it's something you'd like but I just wanted you to know I'm thinking about you. Happy, happy birthday!!! お誕生日おめでとうございます otanjoubi omedetou gozaimasu🎂🎈🎁🍫

Ashley Asarver, a spiral garden: “The centre of the bed is taller than the surrounding layers, which circle down to ground level.” Like a snail shell. The previous owner of my house built it, and I neglected it until this year.

Sharon, your link kept taking me to a shower wall video….. could you retry and send me the link to your worm bin video? I never get tired of watching worm videos, my latest fav is Rhonda Sherman’s podcast, she’s the leading expert on vermiculture. My worms are fat and shiny now and I even see cocoons and babies🪱🌕 I am utterly enarmored by worms and it is strangely fulfilling to witness the correspondences between microcosm and macrocosm unfolding in my little worm bin. I can’t wait to set up outdoor worm composting systems. Stay warm Sharon, the last frost date is almost here🌱

John, I heard that cranes gain enough height to clear the Himalayan ridges. Imagine the splendor… I literally choked up thinking about it. I am pretty disappointed in life but I take solace in knowing that the world is still beautiful. John, don’t come home until you witness the crane’s V-shaped formation between those snowy peaks (check out the photos in the article below) https://nepalitimes.com/opinion/comment/saving-nepal-s-flyway-for-migrating-cranes

Bear🧸 I can’t believe you remembered my birthday🥲 I wish I had checked FS sooner, your lovely post would have redeemed otherwise the crappy birthday I had. Thank you for thinking about me. You don’t like my worms? At first I was apprehensive about keeping a worm bin in my kitchen too, but the worms are well behaved as long as I keep their environment favorably and none escaped so far. It’s super therapeutic, I highly recommend that you start worm composting!!🪱

I'm sorry your birthday wasn't great. I'm not quite sure how I feel about having worms as pets. But, I'll try to keep an open mind. 😄 Do you have names for them? 😉

Yfritz, I just mentioned this to Egull, and you came to mind as well. Have you heard of Substack? It is a blog website for writers.
