Strawberry blossom I currently run 4 compost stations. Compost, when it’s done right, does not smell like garbage. The other day I stuck my arm in the steamy core of leaf mould, and its cleansing scent struck me so hard that a few areas of my brain woke up. Composting made me mindful of the way I eat. I generate very little kitchen waste now. It also keeps me busy - even on the most dormant day I burn a decent amount of calories - there’s a lot to be done to maintain the microbial activities in those compost bins. I am not a green conscious woman, I scoff whenever I hear greenwashing nonsense, and I don’t trust anyone who claims composting “saves the planet.” The. Planet. LOL. I detest hyperbolic expressions like that. When the decomposing leaves struck my nostrils with the scent of ancient Buddhist temples, I was humbled, humbled by the generosity of the nature. For once I was the recipient. I am perpetually surrounded by people who take, take, take, and I am tired of their platitudes and tired of suppressing what matters to me. The intimacy with which my garden knew me shocked me. The dead leaves, microbes, earthworms, rain, heat, frost, and most of all, time, operate reliably to generate the scent that rearranges the way I reckon time, it is the scent that brings back the most beautiful moments of my life, those players in my backyard accept my sorrow and they keep giving, giving, giving, and that is the reason why choose to run 4 compost stations and spinning my tumbler like a hamster on a wheel.

Какое хорошее, верное эссе о мыслях, рождённых вокруг земляничного цветка, дорогая Fritz. Как же я люблю твою здравость - хм it's sanity ..or soundness or common sense - наверное, как-то так можно перевести и ту часть того, что я люблю в тебе) Возможно, ты отстраняешься от "green conscious" в виду того, что это сейчас больше (или отчасти) про политику, демонстрацию себя или протест. Ничто не спасет планету, ни компостирование, ни гнев Греты Тунберг, ни шопперы из экологичных материалов, ни многоразовые предметы, ни зубные щётки из переработанного нейлона от Jordan. Спасают (извини, я знаю это будет звучать, возможно, слишком громко и объемно, но мне так хочется сказать, это моя мысль) такие как ты, которые смеются над всем вот этим политическим и большим. И идут тратить свои калории, свою энергию, чтобы сделать чище - чище вокруг себя, чище свои мысли, чище свой ум. Такие как ты, которые чувствуют красоту от запаха мертвых листьев, мха, воды, разложения и нового роста, понимая процессы природы, понимая работу времени в природе. Как же это красиво.

А, ещё ..Ведь твоя мысль созвучна опыту двух больших философов. Сейчас расскажу о своей ассоциации. Тот момент, который ты описываешь вначале, вот это: "does not smell like garbage", когда ты ощущаешь запах близкий геологическому, земля, разложение, торф, переработка, время - вот все на стыке этих понятий, было в мыслительном опыте. Есть такая фраза - на мой взгляд, одна из самых совершенных в этом мире - "вечность пахнет нефтью". Это фраза от американского философа Уильяма Джеймса, которую потом использовал для исследований ещё один большой ум Бертран Рассел, она говорила об трансцендентном опыте человека, который утверждает - о, сейчас действительно lol - узнал тайну вселенной, да, кажется смешным, но пусть. Наверное, со временем, лет за сто, эта фраза стала ещё объемнее, учитывая, что нефть это ещё и ресурс и в ней стало умещаться ещё больше смыслов, концентрируясь и наслаиваясь друг на друга. Но ведь то, что ты пишешь о "cleaning scent stuck me so hard" мне ощущается таким близким ко всем этим философским измышлениям из разных стран..)

p.s. на всякий случай уточню, вспомнила кое-что) то, что может быть непонятным. В русской текстовой речи иногда пишут одну скобку в конце слова или предложения, она означает улыбку) все время забываю про это, что это признак русской речи и, возможно, близких языков и может быть непонятно зачем мы ставим эти скобки и почему она только закрывающая..) мы так улыбаемся в тексте

Always love to read your posts. My mom used to place strawberry plants along the sidewalk leading to the front porch. A quick treat on the way in or out. 🍓🍓🍓

You’d be surprised by the amount of food waste in the average American homes. I have virtually zero experience wasted foods. All my food scraps goes to me chickens. Maybe chives can save the planet??? If every house hold can get atleast two chickens and toss them their table scraps, they’ll eat those scraps and gives you back protein balls

I have a countertop pre-composter. It’s billed as a composter, but technically, no, the dirt is too young, but I love playing with my little bucket of “dirt” before I toss it into the plants. You’re such a lovely writer, yfritz, i hope you find solace and joy in your own words looking back.
