wholefoodnut's Journal, 10 Jan 15

Productive day. Much caught up. Most of Christmas packed away, a little to finish tomorrow. I remembered to eat today, on a day off, no beer or wine.

8 pounds of bananas puréed for smoothies, a papaya sliced, and in the dehydrator along with a bag of cranberries and a sliced green pepper, will put more in it tomorrow. Adzuki beans cooked for a dish, turanicum, a grain cooked to eat this week. It has a nutty taste to it, from what I read it's an ancient grain related to wheat. It's a new grain for me, I like it had one spoonful so far. So a start on my week for food.

10,000+ steps today, housework but no specific exercise.
😂
Tried the ginger tea, it's good as well.

I am glad to read you had another productive day! I know most people say weekend day's are made for rest, however I find that this is when I am most productive too! I am glad you accomplished so many of your goals that you set for yourself, today. And I hope you had an enjoyable evening. Truly, Jen

My job is exhausting, mentally, no matter what my good intentions are I don't get much done during the week. I know many of the people I work with are the same way. I need to get my exercise back on schedule as that will make me feel good; besides I want to have great abs so i'm able to wear that bikini by July 4th weekend, one week before I turn 66 and look good. :)) :)) too many of the women at the lake wear them that really shouldn't, I'm not about to wear one with a flabby belly, grins.... total vanity!!!

You are so motivating! I strive to have the same good habits :) I'm not good about preparing foods or smoothie ingredients in advance. I'm trying to reach bikini-ready, too, so need to make time for my exercise.

VeggieJunkie, I needed some sort of vanity goal besides the get healthier ones. :)) my teenage granddaughters think I'm silly. I have not been good the last couple months. Finding I'm wasting food by not planning ahead. I tend to go overboard with more veggies than I can eat. I purée fruit and freeze it in bathroom type Dixie cups, toss them in a freezer bag, so handy in the morning. The green grocer had cases of ripe bananas for $1.00 on Friday, I bought one. I pick fruit up on sale especially bananas. The Mexican store had papaya for $.59 a pound I would normally purée it also but it's getting dried for my attempts at healthy parrot food. Have to run to the store this am so I can prep a few dishes for the week. Trying a Cajun potato cake that normally has meat but am substituting adzuki beans, it's from Paul Prudhommes Louisiana Kitchen book, I'll also make spicy Cajun sauce. These can freeze extras for later use. A couple more will get done an Indian dish with lentils and rice, and an Indian curry sauce that will go with the grain I cooked yesterday. If I have dinners partially prepped I'm more likely to follow through with my gym plans.

Such great ideas! I'm also wasting some foods because i don't plan ahead. I have two boxes of Dixie cups, so will puree some bananas today. Thanks!

Those little cups are a perfect amount if I add kale like I do most mornings, my grandkids use 2 they think those green smoothies look yucky. I often put soup in the bigger ones pop them out into a container to take to work for lunch. I put them on a big cookie sheet to freeze them and then toss them into a labeled freezer bag. Just don't leave them on the tray a long time in the freezer, done that == major freezer burn.

I add kale or baby spinach. I agree with your grandkids about the green smoothies...the do look pretty gross, but at least they taste amazing. I'll be sure to use freezer bags :)

I agree but they won't taste, they do like the bright green lime basil ones I make in the summer. I use the dried in the winter tastes good but it's not pretty.

I tried to dehydrate some cranberries and mine did not do right. It seems like they went straight from the juicy stage to the dried up husk stage. lol Do you have any tips? I thought maybe this is why the ones you buy all have sugar, to make them stay moist.

My first try with cranberries. I want to add them to my parrot's food with no sugar, thinking they would be good on salad as well. Interested to see how they turn out. I'll post how they work.
