Good morning Saturday!! Everyone have a great weekend!! Too tired to put much in here by the time I arrived home yesterday at 8:00. No formal exercise but almost 15,000 steps for the day. Late dinner and late to bed.

Taboulli was only about halfway eaten. Was glad there were leftovers. A very nice co-worker is in her first trimester of pregnancy and hasn't been able to eat much. Just smell is making her sick. She tried it, loved it, and could eat it. She asked for the recipe so I will give it to her. I set the container on her desk and told her to take the rest home. Glad I happened to make that. She was so excited, made my day.

Didn't feel like coming home after work so went to explore the new Ikea store. Had only had their catalog which isn't really for ordering, I tried when I started re-doing my basement, couldn't, and filed a complaint with them. Such a different kind of store, not sure that I saw all of it in 4hours!!! Found presents for 2 grandkids with birthdays this week, a light fixture for my stairway project, a set of needed new sheets for my bed, and a few other small goodies. I could spend big $$$$ in that store if I had them, good thing it isn't close by :)))

I've been waiting for this store as we had heard projected opening of one the last 3 Septembers. Now I have too many ideas churning in my head. Am glad I didn't go planning on buying anything beyond a fixture and sheets if I found them. So now to measure and use the catalog to plan my choices. First thing is to add some shelving to my kitchen. I have a terrific kitchen considering I have a little tacky tacky 50's ranch (I learned a few days ago it is older than I thought). I still need more organized storage.

My taste in interiors is as eclectic as my cooking. I have fairly traditional furniture, most of it inherited, divorce in progress when my mom died and I have her stuff. I'm almost down to just having my favorite furniture pieces, more are leaving later this fall. Also have a bunch of antiques and I love contemporary and no clutter. Wish someone would take half of the family glassware.

Here I am rambling again completely off topic of this site. A weekend of beautiful weather and I need to work outside and inside. Trip to daughter's to deliver a birthday present to 7yo grandson.

I love buying sheets and light fixtures, etc. It seems to help give your home a facelift, doesn't it? I heard the Ikea was pretty pricey. We don't have a store near us either. Have a great weekend.

My DILs have planned a "Ladies of the Lodge 2nd Annual Ikea Weekend" for next weekend. DIL#3 lives about an hour from the nearest Ikea so we'll all meet at her house Friday night and spend Saturday at Ikea and the outlet mall nearby.We enjoy just walking around and then going out to eat at a nearby restaurant. ~ And Mom, Ikea is not expensive. It is known for being cheap. The quality is pretty good, at least for the things I've bought in the past. Usually they are near a college town or big city because they have so many options for organizing small spaces like dorms and small apartments. ~ Wholefoodnut, I buy my sheets, comforters, duvet covers and pillows there. They have the nicest stuff! I always find something I never knew I needed, but can't live without when I go there! ;o}

Actually it has really good prices and many things you can't find anywhere else, at least here in the middle of the country. I'm in the slow process of updating my entire house, thankfully some things like the windows, kitchen cabinets, and siding were all re-done in 2004. I'm sure windows now are better but will be making insulated window treatments as I get rooms done. Needed the light fixture to put my spiral staircase totally back together.

It just goes to show you that I don't have a clue what I am talking about. LOL!

Middle DD just sent me a text there is a mud run this afternoon. I've only gone to one this summer, so will go play instead of work on my house. It will be fun. Will take my measurements and Ikea catalog and maybe work on my plan during some of the down time. Need to get moving. Slept later as went to bed later, then my usual be lazy, play on the computer, drink my coffee weekend morning.

Mom2boxers, not sure where you live. Here in Kansas city area most stores are pretty traditionally oriented. There are many items that are available on the coasts that we don't have here unless ordered online. My 100% cotton sateen queen sheet set was $24.00. The simple light fixture was $4.99, it fits what I need there perfectly. Like any store I think you have to comparison shop.

Hipaagrammy, I'm hoping on the sheets. I bought some earlier this year that were supposed to be 100% cotton 400 or 500 thread count they are pilling. Yuck!! Almost can't sleep on them. That means they have poly or other synthetic mixed in so wherever I bought them, the label is a lie. Their food looked good, I was near the restaurant a couple of times. Saw a salmon dinner that looked really good. Bought some food storage containers that look good. Tired of the mess of storing all these oddball ones I have, may pick a couple more sets of them up if they seal well.

wholefoodnut, where/how did you pick up your refurbishing/refinishing/repairing skills?

Just by doing.. it's often a learning challenge along the way. LOL. I have collected some how to books, utube helps sometimes, and I'm always watching hgtv. Glad I can now get to some DIY as well. I can also always call my son-in-law who lives about 2 hours away, he does remodeling as one of his businesses. He's great about giving me advice, and laughing at me. He is coming up soon to do some work for me on a chimney and replacing my front door ( that's a complete frame and everything). I'll tackle most anything that seems like a one person job that doesn't mean climbing very high on a ladder. I figure men aren't born with the innate ability for doing things around the house, so why can't I do the same?

WOWZA!!That is dirt cheap for sheets and the light fixture!! I live in the Virginia mountains. Nothing is that cheap here! LOL! I have to buy king size sheets now and they are never less than 79.00 bucks at Sam's Club. Well done!

wholefoodnut, good idea to avoid climbing high on a ladder. I was once the campaign manager for Phyllis Goetz, who was the Libertarian Party candidate for governor of Ohio. Her ex-husband was working on the roof of his house when he took a dive - didn't survive.

It looks like I'll have some DIY in my future...my log house has had some shoddy workmanship over the years. It didn't show up at first, but little by little it is becoming evident. Friday morning I went into my walk-in closet to look for some paint clothes to wear to stain the gazebo, and my whole closet system came crashing down around me!!! The shelves and racks had never been screwed into studs! I now have about 20 big holes in the drywall where they had used mollys...grrrr! I may be looking at closet systems when I go to Ikea next weekend.

Oh my!! Your closet crashing!! Mollys aren't that great for that weight. Grins, I now have more paint clothes than ones I can wear in public... Chris, since I tangled with a horse in 1986 I no longer do ladders well. Left leg occasionally says it's not going to work anymore. Happens less frequently since I've lost weight and am working out. Ladders, no but I do I own one so I can check the gutters, nothing more.

Hey Mom, the last ones I bought that pilled were like $49.99, so yeah, I'm trying these, they feel yummy so far.
27 Sep 14 by member: wholefoodnut
Yes, the sheets are yummy. They don't have one bigger seam on one end (that help to show which end of the top sheet goes to the foot and which end goes to the head) like American sheets sets usually do, but the salesperson told me that is another example of Ikea's sense of frugality. That way the head and foot can be switched with each washing so the sheets don't wear out as quickly...huh...makes sense, but still takes some getting used to. ;)

LOL I noticed that when I put them on last night after washing them, they do feel nice and smooth. Hate pilling on sheets, now to see what they feel like in six months. Weird though. I always buy white sheets, except for the kid's beds in the basement bedroom, I bought a deep purple for some reason, looks good in my purple bedroom. The queen pillow cases are really queens and not just regular size, that's rare. I have queen pillows.

Love Ikea ... just walking around and wondering how I ever lived w/o all that stuff. I want some of those recessed furniture things. So cool.

Recessed furniture things? Probably missed those. They have lots of things I would love!!! Will have to be good.
