Cool Sunday morning, hinting at the coming fall 57 degrees, high of 75 predicted, shut the ac off. Lots of dew so will do inside chores this am. and some prep for the upcoming week. Will try one of my new grains so will get some cooked and a batch of beans.

Exercise will be mowing, weed-eating, and other outside chores. A bit if a late start, the dogs are not used to the windows being open so woke me up numerous times due to neighborhood nighttime noises.

The coming of fall always makes me sad. I'm an outside person in most ways so never look forward to our ugly Missouri winters. I have that winter depression thing, can't think of the name if it, I take lots of vitamin d as the days get shorter. Exercise last year helped me get through it better.

Its called "SAD" Seasonal Affective Disorder.

It was hot where you are? Cooler will be good for you. We actually had rather cool rainy summer compared to usual, just a couple weeks of hot recently. The grass is still green, usually it's brown and baked. I go through this every year, nothing new. I love spring and summer, and the colors of autumn. I used to love winter in New England where you could get out and ski, skate, sled and enjoy the winter. Here it's just cold and windy, gray for days on end, snow doesn't happen often but ice does. Good time though for inside projects. Seasonal affective disorder is what I couldn't think of.

I'm with you about the end of summer, and agree that exercise helps tremendously. I'm in the northeast and do try to enjoy some outdoor sports over the winter, but am always ready for spring! xoxox

Forgot first football game Chiefs vs Titans. Have to watch, 10 to 3 Titans. Still working on inside. Washing floors; cooked kamut in the pressure cooker, tastes like a really nutty rice with more body, like it; have mayo-coba beans on quick soak to cook; watermelon cut up ready to freeze for smoothies; half-time go pick tomatoes to chop and dehydrate; doing laundry.. multi task day.

I am in between.. I used to love Fall but it seems it only lasts a week or so and we are directly into Winter. I was enjoying the cooler temps outside this morning but dread that cold frigid icy weather of last ... wow.. I'm wishing away time. Sorry. I'm trying to catch up on journals after being away a week. Good to visit with you.

I hate the sleet, hail, ice, snow and blizzard. brrrrr Jeri, look at winter as a cozy indoor time, nice for quilting and creative crafts. Wish you could get one of those lights that shines brightly to get rid of the SAD.

Just fall makes me sad, first pro football today and a cool morning was a big reminder. Grandsons first game is this coming week. Vitamin d and exercise seems to help a lot. Also planning lots of projects to keep me focused on accomplishing things helps. Working this year on my main floor of my house as it definitely needs help in color, it's not pretty, still painted white like when I moved in except my bedroom. Wallpaper half stripped off my dining room, need help to move my hutch to finish it. Will have help in October. I love my cozy basement retreat almost all quilting with a living space, exercise equipment, an extra bedroom as well and big closets. It was so dark and dreary it was my main focus to re-do first. As many of you know I'm always working on something :))) So excited that Ikea is opening finally this year, was supposed to be last year... maybe I can find some neat shelving for my hundreds of cookbooks.

Glad your weather is good, here also, absolutely beautiful day. Don't have that option to head south, full time job. Can't afford to retire. Won't get cold here until probably October. Will be mostly terrific in between. Will enjoy every warm day.

1/2 way through the yard..rest will wait until tomorrow. Out of energy. Still have some house things to finish. Such is the way of days off, try to fit too much into a day.

i also get sad when fall comes, mostly because of the decreasing light. i have SAD too. i use one of those lamps with full spectrum lights. i can't say it helps much. and i hate sitting with it. i really look forward to the solstice, when it starts to get light again, and the beginning of daylight saving time. it was so cold last year, i'm really hoping this year is better. i'm a little concerned with how i'm going to keep up my walking.

Have you tried SAD light therapy? I'm going to try one this winter. I hope I'll feel more energetic.

I do have mostly full spectrum lights in my basement work room it helps with color they are new halogen fixtures. My upstairs is a mish mash of whatever, with all these new light bulb restrictions I'm still trying to find ones that actually let you see. Work is some sort of fluorescent, no control over those. Chris, are you talking about the full spectrum lights?
08 Sep 14 by member: wholefoodnut
Not sure if the lights I have help any.
08 Sep 14 by member: wholefoodnut
No, I'm talking about light boxes. From the Mayo Clinic: A light box mimics outdoor light. Researchers believe this type of light causes a chemical change in the brain that lifts your mood and eases other symptoms of SAD. Most people use light boxes for a minimum of 30 minutes each morning. You can buy a light box over the counter, or your doctor may recommend a specific light box. Most health insurance plans do not cover the cost. Light boxes, available from stores and Internet retailers, come in different shapes and sizes and have varied features. They also produce different types and intensities of light. Light boxes are designed to be safe and effective, but they aren't approved or regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so it's important to understand your options.

I'll have to look into those, Chris. Thanks.

If you do get a light box, get one that doesn't emit blue light.
