Nikina70's Journal, 27 Jul 21

Unofficial weight on Monday morning was 69.6kg, which means I behaved myself over the weekend. Still had pizza, wine, ice-cream and even chocolate cake - and enjoyed it all! Average daily calories for last week was 1802 so that is progress. At the moment I don't see myself lowering it very easily so I'll hang around here as long as I can still see a loss each week and then adjust.

Hubby did try to tempt me with an ice-cream wafer sandwich last night - and then peanuts and chips as well, but I resisted them all. I wasn't even hungry (and I don't think he was either) so I just had some red grapes with black coffee while watching Netflix. I am determined not to nag him about eating healthier, but I hope he will follow suit eventually. At least he had a banana this morning - progress! He usually asks me if I want to share one, which I find completely ridiculous - like eating a whole banana will kill him!

I've seen someone on FS say that they tried eating 1800 calories a day and didn't lose and they were around 100kg. I find that really hard to believe - they're either not tracking accurately or haven't given themselves enough time (doing it consistently for at least a couple of weeks) to see the results. I also don't feel like calling someone out if I think they're lying to themselves about what they're really consuming. And it still boggles my mind that some folks use this app and don't use the food diary. I can understand if they've reached maintenance and no longer need it, but it's just the easiest tool for beginners to see results - if they'd just embrace it. Such a waste of time and energy to be doing half-hearted tracking... but that's my little rant over.

This morning I did:
Caroline Girvan - 30 Min DEFINED ABS WORKOUT at Home | No Equipment | No Repeat

This was after a 40 minute walk with hubby - we go for a walk every morning these days (weather dependent) and it's usually up to an hour so that's great. Meant to rain this week so will see if we can still fit in at least one hour long walk a day. I'll still try to get in two more YouTube workouts as well.

This week I baked a kilogram of sweet potato for my lunches. There were 6 good sized ones so I could actually have 1.5 a day, but just having one a day for now. Was delicious yesterday with broccoli, tomato, humus and sweet chilli sauce - a bit weird, but very tasty. There's a ripe avo in the kitchen so today's version is going to be delicious, but not pretty, so won't post it. Might make some more effort to make it pretty tomorrow.

Anyhoo, not sure who's read this far - waffled on a bit today. These journals are as always just a way for me to keep track and to look back on in future. But, if you've read this far - have a great Tuesday!

hi Nikina I enjoyed reading your interesting week, so you can waffle on as much as you like for me, as I live alone I find it interesting to hear about other people & wat thy have been doing, I struggle with my weight but I keep trying & won't give up, my problem is I have a sweet tooth & its hard to resist sometimes, but as long as I can keep losing a bit at a time then it's not a total disaster, hope you have a nice day 👍

Love your profile pic, Dizzy17! I have a sweet tooth too, but I find that if I plan for sweet things through the day - like half a Flake or Twirl crumbled over some yoghurt with fruit - and included in my calories - that it's easier to stay on track. I also eat slightly fewer calories on week days so that I can have pizza, cake and wine or whatever I fancy on weekends so that my daily average still comes in 'on budget'. All the best on your journey!

schmetterlinge34 - I take a break from tracking too sometimes and I can understand that it can become a bit obsessive. You still seem to be on a healthy track though so I'm glad it's working for you. I just know for myself that if I stop tracking I usually end up weighing more in time - as is evident in the last 5-7 months for me. I find consistency is key so I think there must be things you're consistently doing that are taking you towards your goals and that's great! Please do share what works for you. Hope you and your beautiful pups are having a great day too!

I love it, 🤣🤣, I think that is a good idea about putting a small treat in a yogurt as I do eat yougurts, I love to have a sweet after my dinner, I can be so good during the day but come the evening I can't seem to stop eating & its getting me down, I no its wrong but I still do it, I don't no if its shear boardom or emotional eating & I tell myself not to do it but it's hard, thank you for replying to me, I wish you well on your journey, 🤞

Paul, we are in Derby in the East Midlands. As much as we would have loved to live on the coast somewhere, property prices are just a bit too steep for us. Did love spending some time in Bournemouth in June though.

Nikina yes the prices on the South Coast are expensive I am lucky to live by the coast of my life and it was easy to travel to London. Bournemouth is a nice town been there many a time for weekends beautiful sandy beaches

Aah - your granddaughters sound so sweet, Dizzy17! The habit of eating in the evening can be broken if you perhaps like herbal tea or black coffee that have little to no calories. But, if you like to physically have something then I find that if I plan out what I'll have and measure all the portions - like 20g of roasted peanuts, 15g of chocolate sprinkled over yoghurt, etc. - if they're small quantities and you savour each thing with a mug of tea or coffee than you can kind of take a bit longer to eat them and feel a bit more satisfied with it. It all depends on what you usually have - and just negotiating with yourself to cut down on size, quantity or frequency can make a difference. The other alternative is to go cold turkey and not have things in your home, but I think losing weight can be enjoyable and doesn't have to be 'all or nothing'. Also, if you're finding that you really want to eat something in the evening it might mean that you're not giving your body enough fuel through the day so increasing something there might also help. Just some food for thought (or me waffling on again):)

Yes, I think you're in an ideal location, Paul. You've not always spoken fondly of Worthing, but I'm sure it's really lovely too and you're very lucky to be by the sea and so close to London too, as you say.
27 Jul 21 by member: Nikina70
Nikina unfortunately there are some rough areas of Worthing as per normal for large towns and subsequently some undesirable people , but the outskirts parts are generally very nice where I live and very nice coastal walks and the downs are 1/2 hr walk away.

Paul, it is sad that most towns seem to have a 'rough area' these days, but the UK still is safer overall. I think even the loveliest town or city in the world will always have a bad spot somewhere - and usually just around the corner from the lovely bit - strangely enough. Sounds great that you're 1/2 hr walk away from the downs though! We feel very privileged to be that distance from two lovely parks so every day there is a new path to explore. Guess we'll know it like the back of our hands eventually - as I'm sure you know your area too.
