wholefoodnut's Journal, 27 Apr 14

A weekend of thunderstorms rolling through, we do need the rain. Not nice on the body ( knees hurt today and last night) or being able to work outside. Did manage some grocery shopping; restaurant depot, outdoor market, 2 oriental stores, 1 Mexican, and a quick run into Aldis before a storm hit. Staples and veggies found some oyster and king mushrooms they were out of buckwheat but did have farro at one Chinese store, brown jasmine rice, tiny baby bok Choy and dried shiitakes at another, fresh local spinach and asparagus. Have chives, dandelion greens, lambs quarters, asparagus, mint and other herbs starting to grow in my yard. Now to plan meals around fresh veggies and try farro.

where do you live? we have had more and more small to medium sized interesting groceries popping appearing in this area. Most of them are not in the "best" parts of town and I certainly would not go to them @ night. I seldom go to a large normal grocery store anymore and then for specific things. IE: hyvee next to my gym has a large natural food area where I get flax seed.

I'm just a bit east of you in Columbia. I have family that lives in Independence.

Oh, Columbia used to have a great food co-op store. Not sure if it's still there. They had lots of great herbs, grains, veggies etc. Used to volunteer there when I lived in Columbia. Really missed it when we moved to St Joe. Hey, if you come to the city let me know, we can go food shopping! I do work Monday-Friday. I live just north of Truman library.

Calyn, didn't look that valadheidlle was the one who wanted to go food store hopping, we could still go. Sounded like the storms are hitting you as well. We had a bunch of little hail earlier, calm now but probably won't last.
