Oh - you can just eat the fruit from around the seeds. They do look like aliens, right? But they're pretty interesting. 

I have been sort of sipping the pulp off the beans ... but I'm now looking for ways to prepare the beans without special equipment 

Not a clue look on Google or you tube??  

Ferment for four days (get rid of the pulp) dry for another 4 then roast. Then grind to powder and process as you like.
