Ouch!! Not a quick fix but consider something like a Beurer heat pad. Possibly the best £25 you'll ever spend and you'd always have it if you're prone to back pain x

Yeah ask for a second opinion. Do heat packs work? I'm meant to be going away for 2 nights with kids tomorrow. I feel better now than I did at 3 this morning. Sofa is more comfortable than my bed. I can sit up now. So horrible back ache I hope you get some better answers x

I have used Voltarol gel for back pain and it can be quite effective, (It's like an ibuprofen gel I think). I've used cold sprays, they are pretty good too. My main aim if i get more sudden back pain is to reduce any inflammation that could cause a nerve to get trapped. I also sometimes roll my back over a large foam roller, often that action relieves it too, but it really depends on the cause.

I've been having lots of ibs problems from eating and drinking wrong things as a result I've sat funny and caused swelling and spasms. I tried the volterol gel yesterday didnt seem to help. Deep heat made it worse spread the pain. The deep cool seems to help and hot water bottle. I think the back exercises on the NHS website helped. All my back was so stiff till I did that. Just another reminder I need to be taking care of myself not good 2 days bad 5 and over doing it constantly x

I know this might sound stupid but was advised this by a physio. Stand against open door frame raise arms to top of frame and hold there and bend your knees. Do this 6 times. Hope you soon find relief

You poor thing - I something have that, and if so, so bad, that I cannot even really crawl. It then takes me about 30 min to get out of bed, because I cannot find a position not painful enough to keep me from sliding to the floor. I then take Voltaren (not the creme! as you say, doesnt do much in such serious cases), but the tablets. They contain actually Diclofenac, which for years was the only that would help me. And only in double doses, but if that happens, I really don´t care, as every breath and slightest movement of any kind is agony. Forget Ibuprofen or Paracetamol, they are not nearly strong enough. BUT this is just my personal experience, check the package leaflet thoroughly for anti-indications and side effects (there are quite a few), and if you manage to leave the house, then ideally try your GP again. Or maybe even hospital. They can try some stronger pain killers, maybe even as IV. It all depends on how strong your pain is. And also: yes, heat makes it much WORSE for these cases, that´s only good for milder strains or so. GOOD LUCK! Hope you´ll be better soon. xx

Really sorry to hear that AnneMarie, hope it gets better soon. Never forget that tomorrow is always a new day, try not to worry about what has come before. I know personally that it's easier said than done but it's really true. Sending you good thoughts and wishing you the best.
