I believe in overall health more than I do weight loss or perfection. I grew up one of those fortunate people who was "a rail" and could eat anything I wanted and remain tiny. It wasn't until my late 20s that I started to gain weight. I had some hormonal abnormalities that were outside of my control and ballooned up fast. I got frustrated that no matter what I ate or didn't I couldn't stop gaining. Then I stopped caring/trying which only compounded the issue. I have long sense resolved any medical reasons for weight gain, so the real challenge has been reestablishing and maintaining the healthy habits I had before all of that. I work in health care and I have read every nutrition and health book you can name. I don't believe in or endorse fad diets (KETO, Paleo, Grapefruit, Soup, CrossFit until your muscles tear and you puke, Cleanses - you have a liver and kidneys for a reason, extreme fasting . . .whatever). Overall, health and nutrition is about giving you body a variety of nourishing and more healthy than not food. Beyond that (and barring individual medical complications) its just math: calories in - calories out = weight fluctuations. In my experience most every "diet" that forces categorical restriction or limitations ends up being unsustainable and potentially damaging in the long run. That being said if you're trying to lose weight and your doctor gave you the A-OK to do Keto or whatever, and that works for you, more power to you. You do you! I'm a huge advocate of people discussing and partnering with their physician or health care provider on major lifestyle changes. Pseudo-science is a multi billion dollar industry because it gives people hope and a sense of control. At the end of the day my thought is actual science beats trendy 1/2 science any day of the week. However you choose to do your weight loss journey I only hope that you do it in a smart and healthy way. Find the healthiest happiest version of you that you can and rock it!
