melissatwa's Journal, 26 Jan 22

My youngest turned 19 today. In one year I will have no more teenagers. Close to the time this photo was taken about six years ago, all five were teens... Well, for a few weeks anyway. Such a long time nurturing and caring for my gang! (Yes, the youngest looks so young. He had some setbacks and was slow to grow, but he is now strong and 5'10" which is amazing since we expected he might not reach much more than 5 feet tall).

When I have no more teens, I will also have turned 50 by this time next year. I want to be fit and strong and not be fearing the future. Choices I make today and tomorrow and next week will shape that future.

Today I walked, I stretched and worked my knee. I have hope for the first time in a while that I have found a way to help it become stable and strong again. Perhaps I won't ever run again, but if I can someday lift heavy with it again and reach high speeds doing my race walking, I will be so happy.

So... here are my late night ramblings and musings. I won't be weighing in tomorrow. There is no need for the scale to report what I already know. I had an indulgent day with the special meal I made for my lad. And, the cake and ice cream was sure good. I will have a couple light eating days and get back on track... again.

I thank God for my family... for all the challenges and stresses and joys and hurts... they are my people and I love them.

John, thank you for all of your support! Because of adoption, the boys are both still teens... For a little while still. It has gotten a lot harder in some ways since that picture was taken. Their mistakes and challenges can have life altering, terrifying consequences, but with most of them my relationship is better and stronger... Just different, which is the way it should be with young adults. Change is the only constant! 😁

A beautiful picture of your people! Mine are all in their 30's now. Cherish every moment as they mature. The 20's is a very exciting decade too. We're about to have the first turn 40, and of course there are now grandchildren.

Happy birthday to your not-so-baby baby boy. 🎂 This is a great photo of your kids. ❤ You're an amazing mother. I won't say it gets easier, but it definitely changes. Your children are truly blessed to have you for their mother. 💖

Yea Melissa , I’ve been on Facebook since 2014, but was determined not to be fat and 50 last year and think I’ve finally cracked it - was able to put my health first once both kids went off to uni . You can do it to x

Thank you, larilyn! Erika, thank you, and thank you for sharing about your family. I can't imagine grand kids yet, but I do hope someday! 😁 ❤️ Dear Becky! Thank you! What an impossibly hard yet endlessly rewarding job it is to be a mom. I know you know! 💓🙏 Thank you AdaOke! Your little ones are... Still so little. What a blessing our kiddos are! Jergens, thanks so much! What a big, beautiful family you have created! My oldest is now 25 and just finishing grad school. Two others are also going to university nearby... They are actually all living at home right now. Cost of living and school is so high that it is easier for us to all be together. It is also a wonderful blessing... Most of the time! 😁 ❤️ ❤️

You are clearly doing amazingly, gaelicgal! I surely want to enter my 50s feeling great. As said in my other comment, I've still got a bulging household. Four in full time school and another who is working but staying in a travel trailer in the back yard. Yep, it costs a ton to live here, so we are all helping each other for now! I know I need to put my health as more of a priority... It is a challenge for sure, but I'm working at it!

Thank you, Tim! 😁 Nikina, I sure appreciate your support and kind words! I need to get my rear in gear again after having far to much CI instead of CO yet another day... New day tomorrow!😂 Thank you, Diana, for always being so encouraging! It really means a lot. I need to remember the good things I know and actively make the choices that will make my goals reality again. Thank you, tr3vi28 and sk!!!

Thank you for sharing the photo and the story of trying to re-create your old photo then finally just going for a natual one. Glad you are proud of it and hung it over the fireplace. Tells your kids everyday of your love. Entirely precious.

Beautiful family! One of ours turned 18 today. By the summer, all will have graduated high school and all will be on their own in one form or another. Really weird and wonderful actually.

That’s what life’s about Melissa, Struggles getting through it with family.💕 You had a handsome family, very blessed, and NEVER and I mean NEVER, pass up cake and ice cream, life’s too short!😊

Thank you, snowwhite! I am very blessed for sure! Love2, Happy birthday to your kiddo too! It sure is an interesting time of life right now. The youngest is supposed to graduate from high school in the spring, but we will see. Academic interests are not his thing, so we are really crossing our fingers and toes and offering any help we can. Two are at Seattle UW and one at SU. I kind of think our home is going to empty in a rush, which I'm not really ready for, but it is our job to make sure they are ready. If the cost of school was not so high, we would be a lot more lonely! I am enjoying the precious moments together!

I hear that. If i wasn’t paying for one at a time, I don’t know what I’d do.
