JockoT's Journal, 11 Jan 17

Blowing a real gale here. So bad that it blew an artic (semi) over on the Forth Road Bridge. It rolled from one carriageway, over the centre gap and in to the other carriageway. This happened at 2 am and the bridge will remain closed until they can remove it, which won't start until the wind abates, which they reckon will be around 10 am. This is the main link between Fife and Edinburgh so will cause chaos. About 5000 vehicles an hour cross, at peak times, but this morning that traffic has a 30 mile detour on country roads.
Here are a couple of my bridge pictures.

Wow, and I thought the 'breeze' we had here was bad enough this morning. Hope no-one was hurt.

I love your photos, Jocko. Must have been quite gust that took that artic out!

There are no reports of anyone being hurt. Gets pretty wild up on that bridge. New bridge supposedly designed to deflect some of the wind away from the carriageway.

I'm not far from you and the gale is phenomenal, isn't it? We've lost a couple of roof slates already!

My ex (the one I speak to) lives in Fife and works in Edinburgh - he's spitting feathers!

That was some wind gust!!! We get some healthy winds here, too, that blow through the mountain passes. It is about that time of year for the winds to hit the side of the house ... it sounds like a train coming through. Love your photographs. Makes your story come to life.

Went over the bridge a few times last September for a wedding in Edinburgh...great views and nice to cross when the weather's fine. Windy down here in The Midlands but nothing compared to elsewhere (or so I believe). Nice pics.
