It is time for a new profile. As many of you know, I am a semi-retired engineer, a proud Scot, living just north of our capital, Edinburgh, in “the Kingdom” of Fife. I am married, with a son, a daughter, two step-daughters, two grandsons and two step-grandsons.
Since joining FS I have lost 74lbs, and hope to lose another 14lb, for a Renewal of Vows Ceremony in July. I started off by just eating my usual foods, but counting the calories and eating less than my RDI. This was successful, but I knew I was on a diet. After a recommendation from a lovely lady here, I read Gary Taubes book, “The Diet Delusion”, and this changed my way of thinking about diet. I have since read and researched a lot more and have now made a major change to my eating regime.
After reading Dr Jason Fung’s book, “The Obesity Code”, and watching a number of his lectures on YouTube, I am swung to the Insulin/Insulin Resistance theory. I am now eating enough calories to keep my weight the same, but have dropped added sugar from my diet (where I can), eating much more fibre, eating three meals a day with no snacking between meals, and taking an Apple Cider Vinegar tablets (one-a-day).
Along with the dietary change I have decided to try Intermittent Fasting. My plan is to fast every second day, but this may change with experience. I will also vary days if I need to eat for a planned event (like of “do” in July).
I started out weighing myself once a week, but then read an eBook, “The Hackers Diet” by John Walker and now weigh myself every morning (after my ablutions, and before dressing). I enter the data into Fitbit, but sync to TrendWeight.com, to remove the noise and calculate the trend, giving a far more accurate idea of how my weight is progressing.
