John10251's Journal, 20 Apr 16

Today is my wife's birthday. She loves Mexican foods. I do to but it can be a little starchy if the wrong choices are made. Any LCHF suggestions?

Nice recovery and blue lining again John!! Sorry, I can't help on the LCHF end of things...we do love Mexican foods too, bison burritos, fish tacos, chicken enchiladas, etc...my wife is a great cook...ah, now I know what we are having for supper. Have a great day!!

I don't know what LCHF is but I would stick with the fajitas without the tortilla and quacamole

Agreed with Scouter, and I enjoy fajitas even if I wasn't dieting. Mainly avoid the beans and rice, and severely limit chips (if you are planning to let loose a bit, none if you are not).

You can go to town on the guacamole and why not do fajitas and just get the tortillas

We have a good Mexican/Spanish restaurant by us we like to eat at. I get either the salmon salad or a marinated/roasted half chicken usually. The chicken comes with rice and beans, I don't eat the rice and just a portion of the beans. Thing to watch out for are the chips/salsa, I have to tell them to take them off the table or I'll end up eating them. Happy Birthday to your wife, hope you both enjoy the evening wherever you go.

See if you can get a taco salad: the meat on lettuce with salsa, sour cream, cheese, and guacamole. This is always a good stand-by. Fajitas are good also as already mentioned.

my trick has always been, to order what I wish. Before the first bite, I get the to-go box and dump half into it. That way I'm not tempted to clean my plate. I've lost 50 pounds 3 times doing it this way....unfortunately I have 50 more to lose.

I like chile verde or chile Colorado no rice & beans with a salad, maybe a bowl of albondigas (meat ball soup) with fresh lemon squeezed in- on the side! Happy birthday to your wife... Enjoy the evening!!

Fajitas! I like to skip the tortillas and chips to make it low carb. It's sometimes easier to not allow the server to bring it to the table. I've even been able to have them give me more veg in place of the beans & rice. Have fun!

Depends where you live and how into Mexican food you are, but I suggest carne asada (with limited tortillas), and nopal (cactus) salad. The nopal is great for controlling blood sugar, and is recommended for diabetes.

I don't do LCHF, but this might work. I order a shrimp fajita and tell them to keep the tortillas, beans and rice so it's just shrimp and veg. Would that be LCHF?

I have tortilla free chicken fajitas couple times a week. Extra veggies, hot sauce, salsa, or guacamole topping.

I don't think too many veggies r on the lchf diet so maybe a chiles rellones which are two little peppers stuffed w cheese, pork sauce on the side.
