John10251's Journal, 15 Jan 16

I logged my caloric intake as "Poor" for yesterday. I consumed 1,870 calories which is 125% of my daily RDI. Anything above my intake goal but below 120%, I log as "Reasonably Well." Anything above 120%, I log as "Poor." Anything below my my goal RDI, I log as "100%." I have never found any rules for judging "how closely I followed" my intake, so I made up my own.

After several days at "100%" I usually see a weight loss. After a day or several days at "Reasonably Well," I usually remain the same weight if I keep my activity up. I almost always see a weight gain after one day of eating "Poor." I'm wondering how does everyone else do it?

Wow -- I hadn't even considered establishing 'tiers' like you for determining which of those descriptions to select . . . I've never felt comfortable selecting 100% - even when I stay within my established daily cal intake all 7 days (I only weigh in once/week) because I feel there's always room for me to improve the 'contents' of my diet/eating. So, I've basically only selected 'Reasonably Well' or 'Poorly' (though I forgot to plug in 'Poorly' for this latest weigh-in).

You're doing pretty well at maintenance, John, I would say. Weight is bound to go up sometimes, the thing is not to let it get out of control - that's my view, anyway. I'm still losing. If I stay within whatever my daily limit is, then for me that's 100% on plan, whatever I've eaten or drunk. I don't have hard and fast rules about what's 'reasonably well' or 'poor'. But if I'm still in calorie deficit, I'd probably give myself a 'reasonably well', I think.

My FatSecret RDI is set by me. It is slightly higher than my FitBit RDI generated by FitBit before daily activity. After a days worth of activity my FatSecret RDI is usually lower than the FitBit RDI. By quantasizing the status, it allows me to judge my performance at a glance...

You've done an awesome job so far. The holidays gave many of us a little more work to do. Regarding the tiers, I never change my recording from "reasonably well". Maybe I need to upgrade my recording. Thanks!

I log my food but just leave it on reasonably well as I'm never perfect. My calories are 1400 now instead of the 1200 when losing and average over a week. So some ups and downs are fine with me. I'm still averaging in the 1200's most months but staying steady.

I only use 100 when my I stay within my carbs fat protein ratios and have exercised for whatever period i determine i am doing per week. Fluctuations do happen but generally a loss when focused.

I have always used "reasonably well" except for the holiday weigh in which i used poor. My standard has been that I am always trying and trying to be aware of what's going in so on any given day I have done reasonably well. The holiday weigh in was a complete lack of trying so it was poor.

I usually leave it where it is, reasonably well. Sometimes change it but don't really pay much attention to it.

Where do you clock to say you did it reasonably well, poor or 100%?
