JustBananas's Journal, 25 Feb 23

Minimal weight loss this month of February, but it's okay because I've had some non-scale victories (NSVs).🏆

⚠️Trigger Warning: Scroll on by if you are going to twist my experience to insult yourself.

During the 2 years that I grazed incessantly at a new desk job, I quit dating once I hit a BMI of 25% (about 150 lbs./68kg). Clothes didn't fit, my collarbone disappeared, and eventually a pooch appeared. I was embarrassed and ashamed and certainly didn't want anyone to see me in my birthday suit. I am not Lizzo -- the concept of proudly posing in the nude while overweight is not one my brain can accept.

Now it's 2023, and a mini-goal was to put myself back out there, in part because we have Covid vaccines, but also because I finally feel confident in my body again with a BMI of 21%.🦋

This month I met a retired firefighter/EMT on the beach while out for one of my walks. We've got date #3 coming up this Friday, and while he's fun, he's not long-term material. I also met someone in Pilates class when I attended after work instead of my usual lunchtime slot. She's younger, Asian, and works at a lab. Taking things slowly with both, but pretty psyched at the moment!💚💚

Nice to hear JB, those NSV’s are worth far more than numbers on a scale

@Russell: Thank you! Covid lockdown was used to lose the weight, so the timing is fine. But it was lonely and a mental challenge to overcome self-esteem issues. I'm ready now.

Nothing wrong with wanting to look good in your birthday suit! 🙌🙌

@Red: if I had your legs, I would be nekkid all the time! 😄

🤣 I was blessed with long slender legs and no cellulite. But then don’t look at my tummy! I guess we all have something we are working on!

Little tweaks to trouble spots are one thing; blowing up so big that it ends your love life is quite another. Fat men have it even worse, as their problems are not just visible in the mirror -- they're functional 🫢

I was planning on dating when I get to my goal weight but then my wife reminded me that that wouldn’t be a good idea :-)

🤣@Russell: Perhaps focus on other heart-pounding goals, like bungee jumping or skydiving? (Actually, they aren't too bad, since they both have weight requirements that you may have exceeded previously.)

I jumped 6 times about 35 years ago. Holy crap where did the time go? I’m waiting for the weather to warm up in the northeast so I can start finding some tennis partners. I haven’t played in 12 years but once I swing the racquet it will all come back to me

Bungee jumped in New Zealand off of a bridge and off of towers while in college. I highly recommend bungee jumping.

@Daddy and @Russell: I've bungeed twice, but not skydived. For now, will get my kicks dating 2 people at the same time and disrobing 😁

I never bungeed, seemed pointless after skydiving. I thought since I was scared of heights why not go to 12,000 feet and jump out. You know JB that could work for you, disrobe and skydive, you will never look at disrobing the same way again.

Awesome news JB, good for you 💚

@Russell: I see your point on not bothering with bungee jumping if you've already free fallen out of a plane. Naked skydiving sounds cold. Would also be concerned about the landing. Shoes or no shoes? What if I land on a patch of thistles or rocks? I've skinny-dipped a gazillion times, so will probably head to the ocean in late July and get that going again. Baby steps.

@Cindy: Thank you! The beach is a great place to meet people. I've met other guys to date there, and it's also where I met my BFF 🏖️. The Pilates class was a happy surprise. Where did you meet your fiancé?

I like Asian men.

JB I first met my fiancé when I was 16 and he was my long term customer in a grocery store. Over the next couple decades we had a couple missed connections on dating services until we finally connected via a dating site 24 years later. I knew he was the one before our first date. That’s the super short version of the story :) I’m happy for you and your dating options. I’m not an outgoing person myself, but am very lucky my fiancé and I worked out anyway.

@Wisteria: I had a crush on an Asian college professor who was mind-blowingly smart and tall (6'0"!), but none since then. My Pilates date is Korean American and just beautiful in a tiny dancer kind of way -- I'm bigger than her, which feels strange but thankfully not awkward. Your hubs is practically the opposite of an Asian man! I guess Texas doesn't have a very large Asian community for dating opportunity.

@Cindy: Now that's a racy story. Meeting him when you're off limits, an ingénue, then eventually finding each other again decades later? A bit "Love in the Time of Cholera." 😉
