I have been a little depressed this week and craving all kinds of whole grain carbs. I am pretty sure these two things are related because I read in this great book a long time ago ( The Chemistry of Joy by Dr. Henry Emmons) that whole grains help you make serotonin. Those whole grains are not completely solving the problem but I assume they are helping. The good news is that I did not gain an oz of weight. I've never been an Atkins person (not even possible for me as a vegetarian), but I have tried to limit grains in favor of protein and vegetables. Now I say, bring on the carbs! ;)

58.3 kg Lost so far: 2.9 kg.    Still to go: 0 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

I'm going to look into that serotonin thing, since I've got depression issues. It sounds plausible considering how refined carbs effect us with drug-like side effects. Good job not gaining while eating them, too!

Cindy, I'm thinking it's the shorter days and oncoming winter. I dread the long nights more every year. Good job on not gaining!

But I'm in Florida and its still hot as hades!! I WISH it felt like fall- even Florida's version of fall! :)

Hi Cindy, yesterday my therapist/life coach mentioned that exercise out performed Zoloft in some tests. Can't remember all of the details but it had something to do with producing one of those "brain chemicals". Exercise helped me on Monday I think it was when I was so down from the autumn blues. I lived in FL all of my life and I got the autumn blues there too. Wish I was back there with you now.

Yes, I have read that, too, neptunebch! I have been pushing through my exercise and am feeling better already. My hubby gets the autumn blues here in Florida, too. I like fall, though. I wish you were in Florida, too! Retirement plans?
