I am going to live vicariously through you ... I want to hear all about your backyardchicken hobby ... from start to finish. What size coop are you getting. Maybe you can post a picture? I looked at the ones they had in Tractor Supply. Some of them had a little fenced in area with the coops and some you could move around so the chickens had a fresh ground to scratch for bugs ... and it was cleaner, I expect. What do you do with all the poop? I just thought of that. LOL!

Raising chickens are cool. Nothing fresher then reaching under the hen for her contribution to breakfast. What type chicks did you order?

My grandfather's chicken coupe is a fond memory of visiting Trinidad & Tobago during the summers growing up! So much fun chasing the chicks me and my cousins would have...LOL

You DO know someone who gets themselves into tons of work with projects! Myself and I bet there are many others here who scratch their heads regularly and wonder what they have gotten themselves into!! Really, do I need more raised beds every year? It freezes every month here and I put in more cauliflower and garlic than any woman ought too! I hope you will post some photos as they grow :)

I've been hearing about my niece's chicken adventures so it will be fun to hear about yours! I guess you need to make sure they get enough calcium in their feed to create the shell? And projects? What projects? 🙆🏻The ones I'm stock piling and the fibro and arthritis that's whining at me overdoing? LOL 🤓

Laughing Becca.. Oh dear my projects keep increasing.
Sandy, once I get the coop built I'll post a photo and some chick ones. Thankfully FS has made posting photos easier, I couldn't seem to do it before. The poop--into the litter at the bottom of the coop (inside) or run(outside) then either composted or onto the gardens for compost. Those move round runs are called tractors (just learned that). Will be an interesting journey!!
Glen, let me know how your DD does.
Kathy, I will have 2 Easter Eggers (they lay colored eggs), a Barred Rock, and an Australorp. The last 2 lay brown eggs.
My uncle had chickens but we more liked the horses and cows back then. Milking by hand was fun.

Excellent idea with tossing poop in the garden. We had a dozen barred. I had a couple of "Polish" hens that laid colored eggs. Keep up updated on your project. Thanks.

SMprowette, I understand about the arthritis and the fibro. Mine have been acting up a bit with all these waves of spring storms. I think they are more bothersome this year as I have not been consistent with strength training. Before I lost weight and started exercising I hurt all the time, now it's just occasionally. I'm lucky my fibro is mild and tends to flare only when we are getting crazy weather. That deep pain is not nice..

Kathy, chicks came yesterday one of the 4 is a barred rock, I had one years ago and she had such a personality. Those Polish ones with the top knot are cute. My 2 Easter Eggers should lay colored eggs.
