Tatmummy's Journal, 04 Jan 17

So, two things, I'm not really 'dieting' as I have so much Christmas food that needs eating up and I refuse to bin food. So I'm limiting it a bit and trying to limit my daily carb intake - (there has been so much about low carb lately that while I still believe extreme low carb and permanent low carb is not healthy, I'm prepared to give it a go short term) - when you decide to make a change wow it's like the world is conspiring LOL.

I hadn't realised how everything you buy to eat out or as a snack is so high in carbs! I mean I knew we (as a nation) had become obsessed with 'lo-fat' and 'artificial sweetener' but wowser! It's hard to grab a low cal, low carb snack! (Note to self - bring cheese and celery to work tomorrow)So many 'diet biscuits' and 'low fat crisps' and sandwiches ...

Any way - I must remember to weigh myself more - the weight I last added was actually from Saturday.

So far I'm doing OK - keeping my carb intake to less than 30% of my daily intake instead of the over 60% it used to be! I'm a carb addict! Luckily bacon sandwiches are still tasty without bread ...hahaha

Bacon, num num num. 'Diet' foods always have a dark side - loaded with sugar or salt and they taste like poo. I always try to go for the attempt at moderation. However, that being said, I am with you on the not binning food - I loathe food waste with a passion and would rather put on an extra couple of pounds than do it (and I did for exactly that reason!). Crimble is always silly season, don't take it too badly.

Putting food into yourself when it isn't needed by your body is exactly the same as binning it - the food has been placed somewhere useless - only thing is when you use your body instead of the bin, then your body gets bigger instead of the binbag - that really is the only difference involved.

I disagree - if I bin the food I will have to buy something else to eat - if I ration it and eat it over time, I won't - I need to eat something and it may as well be fruit cake! (with cheese...mmmm)

I agree with that Tatmummy, so it seems that you ARE really 'dieting' just having an adaptive 'diet' right now and taking care to make it work - but I don't think that what I said is actually wrong, just maybe doesn't apply directly to you since you're not eating food that isn't needed by your body.

People need to be more aware of dates given on food packaging and not bin food when you don't need to. www.approvedfood.co.uk/ Use by dates are the only ones that are important, dairy and meat products. Sell by, Best before etc are grocers labels to restock the shelves and nothing to do with health or state of the food. Biscuits may go stale if left for months, but most products, if stored correctly last for a very long time. What gets me is people throwing pickles away because they are past their best before date. Pickling things has been done for many years to preserve food for a long time,Same goes for preserves, the very name should give a hint. Don't stuff yourself or throw anything away that will keep. Apples and potatoes are prime examples. Apples harvested in October can be kept until March in cool conditions and potatoes kept in a dark cool place can last months too.

I love fruit cake... My SIL who died last year made one for her brother (my hubby) but I would sneak a piece now and then. I'm not glad she's gone, but sure glad none of her daughters is taking up the tradition...
