New year ramblings...

Eating my almonds just now and I finished on a ZINGER. I love those, the ones which make my eyes water they are so loaded with cyanide, my tongue goes numb. Yowzer. They only appear every once in a while, which is suppose if good, but I love 'em. I have organic raw whole almonds every day.

Have started having cooked breakfasts. exactly the same food as I usually eat as a salad, but braised in butter. Oh, so delicious. I think I am ready for hot food after being mainly raw since June. Kind of shakes things up a bit. Also I lose the Balsamic vinegar. The one I just opened is very thick and >19% carbs, so even having 5g adds a gram. Worth it though it's so yummy.

Have reduced my RDI as I am not feeling like getting close to the 1600 FS suggests. Having a higher level makes me feel as if I 'ought' to be eating when I don't actually want to. Getting towards the new lower limit gives me the justification that it's ok to stop. Bonkers really, but hey.

I know it looks as though I drink a lot of water, I suppose I do. I always have, it's not worrying for me. I have never drunk fizzy pop, too fizzy as a child and way too sweet for me too. My mug holds half a litre and I drink through the night too if I wake. I don't have thirst, les alone excessive thirst, I just like to drink water. I used to get cystitis as a teenager. Ever since then I feel it's vital to keep properly flushed. I can't understand how people get by on less. When I was pregnant the midwife thought I'd given her water as a sample. I was astonished at the other samples in her bag which looked like lucozade - apparently very common..... and in hospital earlier this year the nurses were confounded when they measured a sample at 1.3 litres..... I told them they should have weighed me after to work out the drug dose ;)

I drink tea, I love it! Also some water, and some white wine. Diet Coke occasionally, not because I like it, but because I want the caffeine! I'm a dead loss without it.

Coke, urgh, isn't there a better way to get caffeine? I drink coffee from time to time, but I don't feel it affects me. I can drink it late at night and have no problem sleeping. I am so glad I don't need a caffeine kick start :D The tea I drink is all loose leaf uncut and organic, single estate so very tasty, but I need to have milk in it so am off that for now. I had black tea for 35 years, but I find it makes me nauseous now without milk. My wine is red :D But I am strict and limit to one 125ml glass a day max and have it with my main meal. Today I had a shot of vodka. I made a stir fry sweet n sour for the boys and in the absence of sake I used vodka. While it was out I had to have some, but I hadn't had wine today so that was fair enough. I have the Sipsmith vodka, which unlike some others, actually has depth of flavour. Nice. Still, at £30 a bottle it ought to I suppose... Still can't beat good water for the best drink of all. Our tap water has so much chlorine and ammonia in it it's nose curling. I hate to do it, but do buy bottled mineral water, I just can't drink the tap water. I have tried filtering it, double filtering, leaving it to stand, oxygenating it, everything, it's truly undrinkable. When we moved here the water board suggested we didn't fill the fish tanks with it as it would likely kill the fish. Good to drink? I think not, certainly not at the amount we do.

I try and drink more, but I never feel thirsty, which doesn't help. My wife drinks gallons, she never goes anywhere without a bottle of water with her. I drink Diet Coke a fair bit. I gave it up entirely, for December, to see if I felt better without the Aspartame, but it made no difference, so I am drinking it again. I also drink at least 2 mugs of tea, 2 mugs of coffee and two glasses of water (with my meds).

I would love to be able to drink water, but I just can't stand the stuff, bottled or tap. I fill up on decaff coffee or coke zero, which I know isn't good, but is better than no fluids at all.

Reminds me of the story: Wife says to her husband, "You were a bit under the weather when you came in from the pub last night. What had you had to drink?" He replies, "I had 10 pints last night." "10 pints" she says, "I couldn't drink that if it was water", to which he replies, "Me neither".

I have read this on the internet: Water Intoxication is also known as hyperhydration Sodium (or salt) helps regulate the body’s fluids. Water intoxication occurs when the body’s most important electrolyte, sodium, is too quickly diluted by consuming large amounts of water in a short duration of time. This causes the cells in the body to swell and malfunction.

Coo. I'm not water intoxicated, just well hydrated and happy. I think 10 pints of beer in an evening would do the double whammy of alcohol and water then - sort of double the value..... :D

And you can hold your water better than most people hold their beer. Your volume astonished the medics :)

I've been thinking about water. And sodium. I drink plenty water, I don't feel thirst, only if I have had salty food. Surely that means I am over salted and I need to flush the excess - that's why I'm thirsty at that point. Too much salt. Needs to go. I think the water/sodium balance is interesting. Don't get confused by thinking drinking water will flush out sodium and cause problems. Sure, if you drink LOTS in a SHORT TIME then yes, it probably does. That's not good. Drinking plenty over a day as I do causes no problems and is beneficial for optimum health. My dietary sodium intake is low, I just started tracking it and was surprised just HOW low it is. I struggle to push a gram a day at the moment. A couple of my foods have salt which is not included in the database as the figure is requested for sodium, which is not the same as salt, which is often indicated on the label of say cheese. So, I have low salt intake and I drink a lot (by most people's standards) of water. The presumption would be that my teeny amount of dietary sodium would be washed away and I would be sodium deficient. I would have Hyponatraemia. Symptoms include headache, nausea and vomiting, tiredness, muscle cramps, and seizures. I don't have any of those symptoms, I am energised and pain free with alarming mental acuity. I can exercise to the max and get no cramps. I think too many people feel they will suffer sodium deficiency if they drink what I call properly. In reality most people are under hydrated most of the time. Add in high salt diet and it's a recipe for disaster IMO.

I know. I was told it (1.3 litres) wasn't possible. I very often hold a litre. Good pelvic floor I suppose.

I did celery juice and it was amazing the amount of liquid I squeezed with the food processor. We shouldn't forget that most of the food has a high percentage of water and to count it for the daily intake of liquid. Enjoy!

I love celery too, brill stuff. Of course, fresh veggies and fruit have stacks of water. Looking around food diaries most folks don't seem to eat much though.... well, not in comparison with me :D I won't bother adding in the liquid in my veggies and fruit, I don't need to use that figure to creep up to the minimum recommended level, but for sure it's a valid point. Another plus for eating veggies :D:D:D Hurrah for the humble vegetable.

Today's dinner a bunch of asparagus fried in olive oil and when done an scrambled egg on the top, cheese with bread, 2 oranges and decaffeinated expresso. In the lunch box for tomorrow mixture vegetables including peas and spinach with a bit or rise mixed with Lidl sausage and half bag of prawns.
