JockoT's Journal, 20 Dec 15

This is terrible. My other half is now on holiday. It is half past two and I have almost consumed all my daily calories. She tipped out a bowl of fun size chocolate bars and I had to ask her to put them away. Then it was Thornton's toffee. I had a couple of pieces. I am only human. She is on holiday for the best part of a fortnight. I don't know what I'll do.

Tie her up and lock her in the attic/cellar/spare bedroom? Or maybe send her to a refuge camp to dish out goodies there? (Only joking, of course!)

I feel your pain. Mine has brought in deep filled mince pies! One down already.

Now, since we are not planning on going anywhere tomorrow, she wants to open a bottle of Champagne.

I went through this with my daughter. She keeps making choc chip cookies - my favourite. I warned her when she made the third batch that if she didn't freeze them and get them out of my way I'd toss them in the garbage. I tossed them in the garbage. Now before you get all upset with me, she's 21.

Hey jockoT, aw does she not understand how hard you are trying and how far you've come? It's a shame you can't get her to make/buy lower in calories food/treats, I'm assuming she is a slim lady. Maybe if you told her how difficult you find it when she's home. You are doing so well, try and hold back until Christmas xx

We had a mince pie with our coffee this morning so the champagne has been delayed until tomorrow. My wife is slim, mainly because she has an active job (NHS Domestic Assistant) and she is a picky eater these days. Normally she is a good help, but it is Christmas!

Oh jocko, such a tricky spot to be in! How to balance harmony in the household and the diet. I find I have to be really strict and just say "you go ahead but I am not having any" Or, I find an alternative, less naughty treat so I can join in. eg if he has wine, I will have vodka diet tonic. Or if he has pudding, I have a diet custard pot. etc. Doesn't always work but it helps sometimes.

I'm struggling with my calories at the moment, before I lost weight I loved Christmas with all the festive foods now I dread the holiday.

I am very good at saying, "On you go, don't mind me", but even then it is difficult to resist all the time. There is also the fact that she doesn't want to cook while on holiday so it is a menu of "dings" and other easy foods.

Maybe you could take over cooking duties and dish up lots of healthy fare. I swear by Rosemary Conleys first low fat cook book. Lots of great dishes and you would never know they are low fat.

To be absolutely honest, I don't even know how to put the hob on. Only time I put the oven on is when Mrs T has set it up, and all I have to do is throw the switch above the cooker. I can work the microwave and the Tassimo! If ever she leaves me I will be down to 9 stone in a couple of months. 67 years old and I have never learned to cook. Don't know whether to blame my mum or the other ladies in my life!!!

Rubbish Jocko, course you can learn. soups are the easiest. bag of fresh chopped mixed casserole veg (already chopped from any supermarket) in a pan with 2-3 chicken stock cubes and water, (just to cover), stir, boil it up and simmer for 10 mins...bingo lovely homemade veggie soup. There you go first lesson done :)

What's a stock cube? No, only joking. Thanks. I might just give that a go one morning and surprise her.
