Need to get moving on exercise again.... So glad this week at work is over!! Looking forward to a catch-up quiet weekend.

Rough week, not just because of returning from vacation, the whole department felt that way. I was thankful that I could escape with one of my team members for a 6 hour training class. Mentally exhausted from the week. Class was a nice break.

Weird that the instructor gave us a 1.5 hour lunch break, we usually get 1/2 hour. We went for a 1/2 hour walk up and down the hills of downtown, until the thick humid air started getting to both of us. Ate lunch, had a nice chat. We've worked together for several years rarely get to chit-chat anymore except on Facebook due to job demands.

She is a really nice person and concerned that job demands are affecting her health and her attitude toward her awesome young boys. She s too young for stress related health problems. Her husband is on the road a lot with his job. I have talked to her husband numerous times, nice person, good dad to 3 young boys (only one is his biologically). Best part of my day.

The class on embracing change was ok but focused on things that don't apply to our job. Most of the classes we are supposed to do apply to software development project people not us. We have lots of changes but no input, we are often written up for our suggestions as not being team players. After once you keep your mouth shut (department specific, not company wide)....It was lots of info on controlling changes. Applicable to my life outside my job.

Felt badly because our group was really busy, us being gone put more stress on them.

Sorry about the work ramblings.

We used to have those 'workshops' .. customer service initiative type things (yep, actually used CSI as the label, LOL) and it was a good bonding type exercise..get to see people outside of emails and conference rooms but the work was always there on return. Would you believe I used to lead one on Stress Management. When I was picked for that one I thought 'well, those who can't do... teach, right?' Who woulda thunk it. Get some rest this weekend. You've earned it.

Mumm stress management would be useful, we don't have one available, might suggest it. Most of the classes we are required to go to are canned. Like 7 habits for highly effective people, crucial conversations, this one today: all written by some "expert" who sells books and teaches their programs to companies who buy the rights to teach them to their employees. They have little dumb exercises that have little applications to our actual jobs. We like them because they are a break from the routine. A tidbit now and then is applicable for our job, some more applicable in our lives. However usually not worth 6-8 hours of sitting there in a freezing room. I have a whole shelf full of these books from classes. Guess I'm just not good at those. Classes dealing with clients would be more helpful.
