Wow Dave, I feel so sorry for you! There are some liquid coats you can put on your nails (from Amazon, etc), it taste disgusting. It will be hard and annoying at the beginning but once you put it on regularly, you will stop biting. And by the way, because you are a mechanic, just imagine how much chemicals you are eating. I wish you all well.

Why are you biting anyway? Is this some stress related?

Cheers Mal321 it's just a very bad habit done since a kid. I have ordered some foul tasting stuff on ebay too.

OMG, I'm a nail-biter too, it's a low level self-harm stress relief, it's true when people say your parents f&*#k you up, I'm also a hair-puller.....

If the liquids don't work/are too expensive you could always wrap your nails in fabric plasters. They're cheap and they take forever to peel off lol. Good luck!

I’ve bitten my nails for 30+ years and finally stopped by rubbing aloe vera Vaseline into my nails at night, it makes them softer and then I trim the snags so it’s not as easy to pick, really helped as for biting pick one nail if you need to pick 🍀 good luck 😉

oh my gosh, I did this for years, was awful & could never stop! Mine used to look the same. In teens, parents would offer me cash (& pots of it), just to stop. All the solutions didn't work!! The push for me?? My wedding day, knew they'd want photos of my hands / ring finger, couldn't bear how awful it would be if didn't stop for that. Did it in about 3 months in the end. Best thing was the gradual process of improvement & using clear nail strengther / polish to protect them. Might be shinier than you're willing to go, but worth it in the long-run. They still bend, rip & break easily 14 years later, but generally better than before & I no longer bite them.

How many calories per bitten nail....lol, only joking, but are you short of calcium by any chance?
28 Mar 19 by member: sarah.woolley01
Haha I was thinking that myself Sarah. I dont know the exact calories in finger nails? I am not short of calcium though, I religiously take all the vitamins and minerals plus fish oil tabs every morning. Fingers like this because of my bad habit no other reason, but I have not been at them since I posted this so hopefully I will stick to it now and get them normal, Thanks for all the supports and comments :)

How are the nails coming along Dave?
27 Apr 19 by member: Maxine smith
They are so much better now thanks Maxine. Sadly I have not 100 percent left them alone and picked on one or two on each hand. Just lapsed odd times but great improvements nothing like the state they was in. I will totally beat it though in time . I will stick another picture update on here when I get them looking good. I dont know if I will hit my 10 stone target or get perfect nails first though?
