Woke this morning feeling lousy with tummy cramps and a headache ... other half thinks it's my body's reaction to giving up carbs?? Anyway felt better after a drink of cold water and some paracetomal, but didn't fancy breakfast. Had a small lunch and then watched tennis and then went to Morrison's for our big weekly shop and tea in the cafe (hubby can't do without his weekly fish & chips from there!!). Absolutely every single item on their menu comes with some form of carbs, mainly chips, even their salads! In the end I opted for a gammon steak with pineapple and requested a large leafy salad rather than the chips & peas it should've come with!

Pink rock salt will help, take magnesium and lo salt for potassium. Keep electrolytes up. You'll feel fantastic soon.

Thanks for the advice ladies .... but as my mate Maria will tell you, I never have salt on anything. I hate the taste of it! Makes me feel sick. There's more than enough natural salt in food without adding more. Sorry.

Thanks Jasmine, I do already. Hubby suggested trying a drink of cold tap water with concentrated lime juice in it and it seems to have done the trick !

Are you certain the lime juice wasn’t a sugar hit as that would help with how you were feeling. The reason salt (Sodium, magnesium and potassium salts) has been suggested is that going low carb has your body using your glycogen stores. Glycogen is a water store as well as glucose so when you use it, you excrete more water which in turn takes these electrolytes with it so you body will be low on them which makes you feel crappy. Whilst you’re right that there’s generally enough salt in foods naturally, this is an exceptional circumstance. There’s other ways of getting it though - Marmite is a good one if you like it. A soy and chilli dipping sauce for salmon too. All the best and let’s hope that crappy feeling doesn’t return 👍🏻

It is real lime juice, not cordial so no sugar, other than naturally occurring, in it and it was only a squeeze. Hate marmite ... but the chilli & soy dipping sauce sounds nice, I'll try that one. Other than not sleeping much, due to the horrible heat, have woken up feeling brilliant this morning. Looking forward to roast chicken & veg later .... without the roast potatoes!
