yfritz's Journal, 27 Sep 23

My drill sergeant ordered me to buy a decent pair of running shoes. More importantly, he insists that I keep going when the brain lies to me that I can’t. And I did it today, I ran extra! I am euphoric, running is magical. Something in me is waking up, apathy is subsiding, I cried for the first time in many months, and I remembered that there was a time when I was able to reawaken moribund people’s vigor and they flew when I touched their hands.

🧸🧸🧸 I say “run” in its broadest sense. I’m slow, snails laugh at me. Is your back still hurting you?

Beautiful picture! One of my gym instructors always says, Your body won't give out, your brain will. Push on!

Unless your heart rate is in the danger zone, or you have stopped sweating or show other signs of actual physical distress - your drill sgt is 100% correct - your brain IS lying to you. Running is first & foremost a mental discipline, in the fullest sense of those words. Always. Keep. Going. 💜

I was always slow too. I guess technically a jogger. But I loved it! I bet the endorphins help boost your mood. My back is still hurting but mostly when I do dishes or sit for too long. So no dishes for me. 😆😉😊

Funny, after reading these comments… today, while doing a plank pass-through with a weight, I kept going, because I didn’t hear the timer, and my daughter had to scream at me above the music and say the circuit is finished. I thought I was going to die but I kept going, because I didn’t know the timer went off. It’s funny our brain will tell us to stop, but our bodies can do more. Bravo to you.Yfritx. 🤗🩷

Cindy🥰 I did 3 miles instead of my usual 2 miles. It’s not much but it made me happy. My mind cleared too and I murdered the NYT puzzles!! Personal best🤣

RavenHawk, I’ll keep going, thank you💕 My drill sergeant is usually 200% correct, and I am very lucky to have this quirky, relentless friend.

🧸🧸🧸Hello Bear🥰 Endorphins kicked in and I made pork cassoulet today🇫🇷 Very labor intensive🤣 Pork was incredibly tender, I am proud of myself. You are right, kitchen duties are hard on the back. I wish you a quick recovery ❤️‍🩹

Wifey that’s an amazing workout you pulled off, very proud of you🏋️‍♀️ I misunderstood, I thought your daughter said “the circus is over”🎪🤣 I guess this confirms the fact we can’t trust our brain!🧠

That sounds good Y! You always make things I've never heard of and do things I'd be afraid of and are always opening my mind up to new experiences! I'm always interested to see what you will be doing next!

🧸🧸🧸 It’s just a survival skill🤣 When I immigrated to US, I couldn’t eat anything, American food was so foreign to me. I didn’t know what to think when I had my first buttermilk biscuit. I had to learn and adapt quickly! I read tons of cookbooks in order to understand people whose background was very different from mine. Then I had friends from all over the world and they taught me amazing dishes. Ghanaian okra stew is sublime… I see that you are experimenting too, have fun!

Yfritz, I love hearing from you! I am tired a lot but trying to get my last few workouts in before surgery. Saw so many Drs with different opinions about weather or not I should workout, which workouts were ok, etc. I decided to take advice from Drs at UCSD as they have most experience in this type of condition. My Dr has written papers on lead extraction and why it is becoming more common etc. I feel anxious about surgery, especially after they found I have 2 broken leads but confident in their expertise.💜💜💜
