ARB0001's Journal, 04 Jan 17

I'm pleased to say I'm back at my pre-Christmas weight too now, with the scale again showing me the lowest number I've seen yet. (167.0 I saw ya!)

As well as that, I managed to get into town yesterday to a new bra store (stocking larger bra sizes) which offers a fitting service. I've been being stabbed or at risk of being stabbed (or stabbing someone else - lol) by my current bras for months now (I thought because the boning was basically a size too big and so was getting pushed out as I move throughout the day)and the boning has to be shuffled back into place in discreet corners and moments.

Anyway - it was a mixed feeling really because I was wrong - my bras were actually two sizes too big being that I was wearing a 36XX and now need a 32XX (I'm not going to be specific, its a big letter involved) that was the good part, the bad part was that I look absolutely awful in the new size as it seems like I have a bunch of potatoes scattered around and glued to my back - something that the too large bra was avoiding.

I felt quite upset for a while - not the bright cheerful result I'd hoped for - the lady said it wouldn't show through the clothing so I asked if I can try my t-shirt over the bra to check that - it was just as bad and the T-shirt wasn't a tight one. I said I'll try another in the next size up (the 34) and I'd rather have it a bit looser and not feel as awful - she said she thinks the 32 is really the right size and its supposed to fit on the loosest setting for a new bra, not the tightest one.

So anyway I end up having to agree - I'm a 32XXX now, quite a long way from 44XXX and wondering what on earth to do when that got too small.

I also picked up a new sports bra while I'm there - I told the lady that it was super hilarious back at home because the sports bra I have is actually a 32 and I knew I could aaaaallllmost close it but sports bra material is much more resistant than a normal bra, I can make the material join at the back I just can't control it enough to close the clasps - private fun and good arm exercise but not much use for sports yet.
She told me that if you don't put your arms in then you can get more control for the clasp - she was right about that. I'll have to think up something new for my arms.

I've just realised as I write that the reason I got upset is actually not so much to do with the bra and more to do with TOM (Time of month) - I mean it is still not a good result, but there's always a day when I over-emotionalise and tear up over something that wouldn't usually affect me as strongly- reminder to self - never try on new anything near TOM.

Buying myself some larger bras and feeling better about myself 12 months ago was precisely what got me back on track to lose weight. I'd been wearing an old baggy bra with not much support or too small a bra that gave me more lumps and bumps than a bagful of ferrets. The right bra made me feel so much better. Ignore the number (after all, different manufacturers differ on that and the cup size) and just make the most of more support where it matters.

I understand you completely ARB. I hate going for bras and hate having big boobs. My cup size is still the same even though i am losing weight! I don't do underwired anymore they hurt me. Thank goodness for M&S they do some nice non wired ones and so comfy ahhh. Well done for getting to your pre Christmas weight 😆

It is good to see that many places sell a much larger range of plus cup sizes than they used to do, I spent the first three decades of my life in the wrong size bras because I didn't even know specialised shops existed, and so I'd just try and find the best possible in the shops I knew about - I didn't even know that finding the right size would be impossible because actually they just didn't stock it. So what you end up with is a larger band size compensating for inadequate cup but it means zero support and triple boob or drop through - so when I first realised that actually a bra did exist in a specialised store which was actually my size - the revelation! I actually had a proper shape and proper feeling of support and no triple boob or drop through ever - and my boobs were at the right height proportionately so clothing fit a lot better too. I'm still incredibly sensitive about drawing attention to my bust area especially due to poor fit but also due to some poor parenting but it was generational maybe? I remember my mum telling me never to tuck my top in except if I let it bag out at the waist 'or you'll be drawing attention to yourself' - hmm I wonder what she thinks of clothing now then.

Oh the problems of buying bras! I found the Panache Porcelain Moulded T-shirt bra fits me perfectly and it's the only one I buy now. Very good for those with big boobs and they look great under close fitting tops - no overspill but nice cleavage 😉.
