Feeling good. Still not getting my diet under control. I don't know if it is my recovery phase but I am hungry all the time. Eating more than my RDI every day.
Today I have a visit to the nurse, at the surgery, so I will get my first "serious" walk for 6 weeks.
I am managing to reduce my pain killers, only taking three lots per day. Yesterday I halved my Tramadol intake, and today I am only going to take Paracetamol.
89.4 kg Lost so far: 39.0 kg.    Still to go: 0 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

So glad you're feeling better, Jocko. Don't panic too much about being hungry and trying to stick to your diet. It will come with time but you need to heal fully. You said yesterday you were going back to 16:8 and LCHF which worked so well for you before so you'll be fine once you're back on it. For now though, concentrate on getting better. Take care, Px

Try filling up on protein - it's more satiating than carbs. Hope your walk goes well.

I am trying to up the Fat and Protein but Carbs are so easy. When my wife comes in from work it is so easy to have something on a roll for lunch, and cereal for breakfast is so quick and easy.

An egg on toast for breakfast is quick and easy, and although you'd have carbs from the bread, it would be more filling and better for you than cereal. Or how about an omelette for lunch - can't get much quicker than that. Add ham, cheese and tomatoes and you'd have a really nutritious meal. Maybe something to think about as you're getting better?

Doobrie. I know it makes sense, but I don't cook. If my arm is twisted I will use a microwave, but it has to be well twisted. If I lived alone I would be 7 stone and hungry! For cereal I use Bran Flakes or All Bran most of the time, both healthy options. I add 20g of Cashew Nuts and sometimes some Cranberries and raisins. And semi skimmed milk or sometimes 60g of Double Cream. My biggest problem is I have no self control. My wife will stop at the bakers and bring in a bun, and I will eat it. She thinks I am thin enough so doesn't see she isn't helping me. She buys grapes and I pick at them as well. She is on holiday next week so my diet will be well out the window!

Lol - I see! I love cooking - it's my favourite pastime. Well, I'm sure you'll get back to your diet at some point, though it will be hard if your dear wife keeps buying you goodies. Perhaps she needs to read some articles about how healthy low carb living is - even for people who don't need to lose weight!

Hi Jocko, guess who? its the silly wench here, got to go to the hospital for an Ultra sound today, after getting the all clear 2 weeks ago it's the last place I wanted to be, but will I ever learn..... Heaven Knows!!!.... You take it easy today and hope you enjoy your walk to the Nurse, its the freedom that you feel once your out and about after sitting around recovering, there's nothing like escaping the 4 walls no matter how much you love your home.....Hey! never mind about your increase in food intake cos You lost too much weight to quickly whilst recouping, I put it all down to Tramadol myself .....There's plenty of time for you to get back on track diet wise when your feeling a 100% fitter ..... Jocko - I think the win is your comment about your wife being at home next week. Take a step back from it all and eat what you want until she's back at work. Do a bit of planning and get her to help you organise some things into the freezer (assuming you have one) so you have one-portion, low carb meals that you can zap in the microwave for your lunch or even breakfast. The means are there, you just have to think of a way around them :) Best of luck and have a great weekend

Maggy. Hope your Ultra Sound goes okay. I walked to and from the surgery today and feel all the better for it. About 2 miles, all told. Nurse was happy enough. She took bloods and BP and I am to hand in a urine sample. What she did do is cauterise the over granulation in the wound, so that is feeling a little nippy now. Managing alright on Paracetamols only, today.

The hunger could just be down to the recovery process, but just thinking of something else I'd read recently about leptin/ghrelin levels (for both genders) and their impact on hunger/satiety when someone loses weight, and importantly, that it can take a significant amount of time at the lower weight before the person's hormones well and truly adapt to this new weight. (The last thing I'd read, I wish I'd saved it, was that it seemed to require at least a year of maintenance at the new low weight.) Perhaps one reason people "fall off the wagon" after losing a lot of weight is down to having a hard time outlasting this period...perhaps yet another reason why slow and steady really can win the race.
