Vegetarian dinner last night. Hmmm. Anyway. Half fast day today. Anyone else fasting or doing a partial that reduces your calories for the full day?

My current plan is to do 2 partial fast/low calorie days per week. I guess similar to 5:2 eating. Shooting for 500 calories today, started with bulletproof coffee then fasting until dinner, will have a light salad w/ tuna. Thinking Monday or Tuesday and Thursday will be the low cal days. Just need to stick with it.

@jmb3450 have you thought about some shakes? I really like the use of nutrient dense shakes...gives you all you need while keeping calories low...~160 per shake when mixed with Almond Milk

@Mahjohn, my usual routine is to have a homemade protein shake for lunch. Using unsweetened Almond Milk, blueberries, spinach, greek yogurt, ON protein powder, and unsweetened cocoa. Amounts to around 300 calories and is pretty filling. That could also be an option on the low cal days. I could modify the recipe of course for the low cal days. Before the snow I was doing 16:8 some days too, not on a set schedule though. I need better consistency if I'm going to get to where I want to be.

Sorry , I have to have my meals. I guess you could call it a fast of a sort. I had lunch yesterday and chose to skip dinner. My husband at at McDs We had a coupon for a "free" egg mcmuffin. Instead it was a buy one, get one free:(. Reluctantly I took the other McMuffin and ate the egg and meat and threw away the muffin. next time I will read the coupon better!

I push myself to overload on coconut oil aka bulletproof coffee or tea! and it's working! I can see a difference and feel the difference. Don't really get hungry except occasionally at 4 am. Go figure.

No fast here either. Reducing calories the usual way.

Yes! Last week I did a 2 day fast. I kind of like how I feel once the 1st day is gone. I seem to be able to keep my resolve better when on a fast than I do when I try to keep to a low calorie limit. I am rarely hungry in the morning.

I am considering trying a 15:9 fast beginning next week on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are the days my weight training class meets. On the days I tried to lift with only bullet proof coffee, I didn't have any strength or power. I won't make that mistake again.

I do a 16:8 fast daily with a 40 hr one thrown in every week for good measure. Doing great with no ill effects.

Why do you all fast? I've heard of the obvious juice/water fast ect. but on a regular weekly basis is new to me. How does it help?

Fasting is not just about cutting calories, it allows you to use stored body fat, and if you're a diabetic, reverse insulin resistance. Google "Dr. Jason Fung", he has some great information on fasting.

I fast 16:8. It gives my body time to rest. It helps bring down blood sugars. For me it has been a godsend.

@FoodDairyDaily - There are many documented benefits to fasting for set periods, like 16:8, 5:2 eating, or fasting 1 day a week. Best advice is to google it, there's plenty of info. available about it.

Nyhardhat. That's how I feel do. It sometimes feels like a vacation for my digestive system. I no longer feel hungry during the fasts, just empty. I think a lot of us North American's have blurred the line between hungry and merely empty. Food is too often used by others to show their kindness. Maybe that old slogan should be changed to "Back off! Keep your own sandwich!"
