I could live with the 5 pound variation (if I ever make it to maintenance). Keep up the good work.

Maintenance is staying within 2-5 lbs either side of your goal weight. You didn't really "diet", you have changed your lifestyle. Allow yourself to add foods you like, have days where you are 100% on your program. If your weight creeps up above your variance, eat less ... and if it starts to get too low, add more. Sounds to me like you have it figured out, you just have to apply your knowledge.

I was hoping for maintenance soon, but I think I need to lose more than 10 more! How did you decide? just by looking in the mirror?

Holly. I was trying to reduce body fat. I'm somewhere around 14-16%. I just stalled. I had my calories under control but nothing was happening. Now I've switched to a powerlifting routine and I want to give myself enough calories to try and get some muscle gains. Between those two issues I decided to go to maintenance calories, and now, 300 cals per day over to support it. It's weird. I was around 2000 calories and nothing was happening with weight loss. Now 2700 and my weight seems stable, so with the 300 cals in addition I'm going to 3000 calories per day. After all this time - it's a lot of food.

Kathryn. I'd suggest you go to iifym com and use their calculator to find your rdi. FS calculator is extremely generous.
