My 4 mile run did not erase the ice cream 🍨 that I had instead of dinner apparently. I wish I had asked for a kids size, or thrown it away after eating half. Every day is a new day to start over.

I have a complex about wasting food, so it would have been hard for me to stop as well. A lot of us have been there!

Writingwyo I have the same complex. My parents and school would punish me for “wasting.” I read once that the food is still wasted if it goes in your belly and you don’t need it, which is a helpful way to think about it, but hasn’t stopped my complex.

Totally in the same boat that telling myself that doesn't help. I wasn't punished, but I was aware we didn't have a lot growing up. Then I moved onto not having a lot for a few years starting out (like sold plasma to buy groceries). Child size servings of certain foods are awesome! I've also finally learned to leave the giant piles of starch at restaurants alone or just nibble a little at them, like the Spanish rice at a Mexican place. It's hard to stop when you abhor food waste, but portions out in the world are so ridiculous you almost have to. But a confession: I probably would have kept going with the ice cream just because the stuff is such a treat 😉

I don't call it a complex. My father worked very hard and we lived paycheck to paycheck. Throwing food away was disrespectful. Many of my uncles were farmers or raised cattle and I know first hand the blood sweat, tears and passion they put into each harvest. When you think of all the natural resources that go into good production it is amazing. From the water and grains that are grown and harvested, then touched by human processes for packaging and transport across the country. The resources used in keeping those products in stores from the utility bills to the cost of the grocery bags. All of that processing and manufacturing puts a strain on the environment. I am not surprised that you guys feel the same way about wasting food even if for different reasons.

I beat myself up sometimes about my choices as well. Last week I had a turtle sundae on a special day. It's the first and last one I will have this year. I'm really not sorry I had it either 🤣

Going for a run and skipping dinner were still mitigating efforts, and the gain would have been bigger if you had not done them. But it’s good that you’re experimenting now before the holidays to keep your weight down.👍

Yep, it sucks! You will overcome! I have had a good eating plan for last 2 weeks and was getting to point where I would go for veggies instead of foods I shouldn't have ..then yesterday happened. I ate 1/2 a Butterfinger bar, which I didn't even enjoy..I was mad at myself cuz it triggered my sweet tooth. Ugh! I got up this morning and walked around my neighborhood but it got so hot I had to cut it short...oh well we will regroup and move forward 👍🩷💪

I totally agree about getting the kids scoop! It’s always exactly enough. But sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach, and oopsies! The goodness is, you know to “regroup and move forward” from here. That’s all we can do! Guilt, shame, etc. aren’t worth the damage.

O Cindy, you will get this taken care of very quickly. You are on top of things. I am not yet in a safe enough space to even think about ice cream. Work in progress. However, it is my slipper slope to fall down. Have a great Sunday my friend.

Have you tried frozen yogurt?

Thanks everyone! Ice cream is not really a weakness for me, not at home or when alone. At home I eat about three bites at a time, once every few weeks, and I never buy it for myself. I just got swept up in the moment under pressure from friends. My body is not used to it. I appreciate all your helpful thoughts

Penderg yes but the shop we visited didn’t have that
