Bubbles McBubble's Journal, 15 May 23

okay I sold out. I'm not even logging. i can't remember how bad it got.

It started with my mother's day breakfast at a keto restaurant with my darling daughter, son and daughter in law to be... (I'm working on it.)

I had keto toast with 2 eggs and a long black with cream and 2 sweeteners and the two girls had a stack of pancakes with fried banana, bacon and whipped cream...

I had a long black with cream and 2 sweeteners for a treat, daughter had an iced coffee (with icecream, cream and chocolate sauce) ...

I held out. So good.

Then... afternoon tea. My sisters brought mum over, and I had sent my daughter to the shops for milk and lamingtons, as I had nothing for tea, and I know I can withstand lamingtongs. My daughter came back with neenish tarts as well as lamingtons. And then they all left because they'd waited and my fam were going to be even later... so...

I have long had an association with neenish tarts. I don't know if you know what they are... A little pastry case, filled with a light fluffy sweet, tangy lemon mousse, a bit like a buttercream, and then on top you have one half coated in white chocolate, and on the other half, brown chocolate. You eat them by slowly biting off the pastry around the outside, and then you munch off the pastry from the bottom and then you are left with the mousse and the chocolate. At that point anything is fair game. Eat the mousse and finish with the chocolate? or see how much chocolate you can bite off before the mousse has nothing to sit on, and you have to eat it. Variety is the spice of life, I change it up often.

There were six of these. There were four of us there, and my little sister had one neenish tart, and that was it. That Left Five Neenish Tarts.

I think I'd just had so much sacrifice all day. I die for pancakes and those bananas had been perfectly fried and caramelised, and the DIL-to-be (i'm workin on it) didn't eat half of hers! And I didn't go near them!

A day of suffering, and endurance, and it all culminated when the darling mum and sisters left me, alone, with the remaining bits of lamington and neenish tart.

To my credit, most of the remaining lamingtons are in the rubbish. You really have to eat lamingtons very quickly after opening as they go stale fast. So that was an easy trip to the rubbish bin. But I ate five neenish tarts yesterday.

I won't be in ketosis again for a fortnight. I hope I think it was worth it. :p

Why a fortnight? Only takes 3-4 days to get into ketosis?

doesn't seem to for me. takes me hell of a long time. I could probably take those gummies but ... I can't find a good source and it's just more money.

Don't be too hard on yourself, occasional social things come up.

And that's exactly why I couldn't make keto my lifestyle. With CICO I can have an indulgent day & get right back at it the next. I can eat all the food groups as long as I keep my calories in line. Don't beat yourself up. Sounds like you had a great day with family!

Move along, nothing to see here… 🤦🏻‍♀️

I had to do a lot of googling, but your Australian pastries sound delightful! Just enjoy the indulgence and buckle back down. I'm sure we are all having to buckle back down after the Mother's Day brunches.

This was like reading a mystery novel…will she? Won’t she? What a puzzle….and then….the monster rears its unwelcome head and takes over🤣👹 (scary music should play here). Run cheesy run! Sigh…screen goes to black. Today is a whole new day! You can write a way different ending today my Aussie friend. Not the end of the world after all. Happy Monday girlie🤠

Hmm. Nice post. I think if you avoided the diabetic coma you are good. What strategy could have worked better for next time? Sometimes the universe does. Conspire.

On the good side Bubbles, you could have had all of what was available to you yesterday and at some point in life you might have. Kudos on only caving in to the neemish tarts!. (they sound really really yummy) As Scarlett O'Hara once said "After all, tomorrow is another day"

I also love the ACT of eating special things. I eat a KitKat bar by eating the very ends off first, then the chocolate on the sides, then the individual layers, from the bottom up. The top is the best part.

Thanks you guys, yes it was very exciting, will I? won't I? But to be fair on me, I didn't want to cave three hours later and fish them all out of the bin. Which I have done before with cigarettes although not food -, but there's always a new low I can reach if I really put myself to it. I did indeed avoid the diabetic coma; which indicates my body is indeed healing. I didn't even have the neuropathy go up to my calves; it stayed in my toes and balls of my feet. Again; impressive. So somewhere in the background I am healing. :) @sarah I love that. that is so totally how I'm feeling right now. just tiptoe on past. ;D Tomorrow is another day. On a brighter note, I introduced my gorgeous scottish boyfriend to a cheese slicer yesterday night. He had never seen one. He was utterly gobsmacked. I sliced him some slices of cheese, he took it off me, sliced a couple of his own. Admittedly then ate all the cheese... I sent him home with one. I usually have 2 or 3. You know the ones? I wonder how I would post a picture. Longish handle, wire goes up one side and down the other, wide on one side, skinny on the other for different slice thicknesses. He's 58 and he's always sliced his cheese with a knife. I have liberated him!

Been there! Sometimes it is ok to just go off the rail and then get right back on the plan. There are times I behave because I can't let it be an excuse to not eat right but I have a sweet tooth and want to spoil myself occasionally!
