Yesterday I discovered the thrill of getting a keto coffee at a cafe.

I got a long black, with a side jug of cream (just 30 mls is enough) and 2 little sachets of sugar free sweetener.

OMFG that was delicious! So good. Now I can go to cafes and drink coffee.

Another keto breakthrough. :)

I drink coffee all the time and didn't think I was breaking ketosis, what makes Keto coffee different?

in New Zealand cafes don't sell cona coffee, they sell espresso in various forms: latte, flat white, cappucino, short black, long black etc etc etc. Espresso coffee is way yummier, but I can't drink it black, so I have been avoiding cafes because what can I have? any of hte milky coffees involve maybe 8g net carbs of milk. I can't afford that on 20g carbs a day. So on Saturday morning I realised I could ask just for a side of cream in a long black, and they were quite happy to oblige. It's not a magic brilliant plan, it's just that I hadn't realised I could ask for something made to measure. And I tell you what, cream in espresso is soooo good. Way better than milk!

Raiderdurf looking at your diary, you won't ever be getting into ketosis. Keto is high fat, low carb. More protein than you require turns to carb. Your carbs should be under 50g a day for keto and you need to eat that little in carbs for two weeks before your body uses up all its stores and switches to fat burning. So - for weight loss you'll be losing weight, but you might struggle with hunger, tiredness, needing to eat etc. Ketosis is where you have no real care whether you eat or not, and you're running hot, and all you really are is a bit thirsty. Today I ate 2 bratwurst because I realised I hadn't eaten and I thought I probably should. I am no longer hungry. I eat from habit now. And that's from cutting out the carbs. :)

Thanks for the info! I really didn't know, I don't think low protein is for me. I guess I do some sort of hybrid diet that I know works. I drink black coffee, 2 shots of espresso with no cream and sugar.

Raidedurf don’t worry about following a specific diet. Consume 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body weight, eat in a calorie deficit, prioritize resistance training and walk as close to 10k steps a day as you can. If you follow that formula you will lose fat and gain muscle. There are rare instances where someone has a hard time losing fat without drastically limiting their carbs, but I wouldn’t focus too much on macros if you are currently losing fat

@reversecosmosis it depends on hunger. You're spot on with the protein; that's you eating what you need of protein, but if you shift the rest of your day's calories from carbohydrate to fat, you are still eating in a calorie deficit but you don't have hunger. Having hunger and fixation on eating and desperate need to eat is the real challenge of dieting. The rubber band is pulled tighter, and tighter and tighter, and eventually it goes snap! And there you are in the cake shop buying a birthday cake or something. You feel like you have failed, you give up, you feel doomed to fatness. If you eat your free calories in fat, you have immense satiety to the point of not caring if you eat or not, and certainly not spending any time thinking about it. It's just a non -issue. I can eat or not. I cannot tell you how unbelievably liberated I have become from my digestive tract. There is NO way to describe it, one has to try it to understand why those who have done it bang on about it so much. it's the magic bullet. It's the door in the wall. And it's primitive: eat your carbohydrates when they grow. No oranges till late summer. no grain till autumn. Greens and animals you killed all spring. Our bodies were designed a million years ago. And they just haven't evolved that much.
