Avatar is at 173. Getting a bit of overflow on the sides. I may as well get it under control.

Fun fact. The 3 pound human brain burns 600 calories per day... and that's without heavy lifting. Since it prefers glycogen, it burns 150 grams of carbohydrate a day if it can get it. Anything below 150 gr of carb per day will deprive it of some of that glycogen so it will slowly adapt to ketones produced by fat burning. Further, glycogen stored in muscle is not released to go to the brain. It can only be used on site to make ATP for muscle action.

Any exercise will deplete those stores slightly. Keeping carbs low will mean that the brain and your muscles will have to make up the difference (as long as you're aware of calories) to support brain and muscle use by burning fat. Insulin, released by starchy carbs and sugars can block the use of fat stores giving you brain fog and a lack of energy. This is why chinese food has the stigma of 'an hour later, I'm hungry'. It's true too.

The starch from the noodles and sugared sauces spikes the blood sugar which increases the release of insulin and blocks the usage of fat making you feel like you need more to eat. That's your brain telling you the insulin has crammed all that starch into muscle or fat stores and is blocking fat usage. It's response? It tells you it's starving and you crave... more carbs. Avoid this cycle.

Good topic NM and very true from my research. Many experts on this topic consider anything under 130 carbs per day a ketogenic diet. You brain needs more carbs than it's getting so your body must produce keytones (fat energy) for its fuel. So technically, if you keep your carbs below 130g, you burn fat just by "thinking" about it!

Carbs from fruits and veggies I've consumed this summer has done a number on me. I know I've got to cut back on the fruit and tomatoes. Will increase fats and protein.

It's hard hard to pass up fresh fruits. I for one will not - I'll just cut back. For some reason, once that stuff is mostly off the table, I believe it will be easier to do all this. Another month or so and things should be back to normal. In the mean time, I'm trying to cut out the starchies and all sugars. The sugars don't do well for me anyway.
