abbadabba's Journal, 02 May 22

Very busy April. First thing I did practically this month was break up with my pandemic bubble - still upset about this, but what is done is done, what will be will be. Helped one child move from one apartment to the other, helped the second child to move from two rooms into one. Then daughter 1 says she is moving again and needs to stay with me in June. Started dancing again, went 7 times in the month. Tripped and sprained my ankle, have been recovering for a couple of weeks now. Changed the date of my retirement to May and have been wrestling with guilt about leaving the group in the lurch, although no one will likely suffer much when I go. Got my cottage rented out for the summer, so stressed out about getting it up to date quickly but my tenant is hiring a cleaning crew and has rented for next winter too - great, but first he had me decide whether I could rent to a teacher in his school who has a cat. Ugh, hate that there is not enough affordable housing in that town and rents are sky-high if available at all. My house is a mess. Been neglecting it to get out and interact with people and forget the guy. Went to one firepit night, one night out with friend B, several nights with friend K. 2 trips to younger child house. A couple of nights out with Mom. Helped at the Mineral club show.
May: drink at least a quart of water each day plus the coffee, eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, keep fat down to 40 g per day.

You have an interesting life and do a lot. I officially retired this month too - signed up for S.S at 70.

Abba, if your office knows your last day, they should be hiring and training 1-2 more employees to take over your job duties, thus ensuring a relatively smooth transfer. Have they taken this initiative yet? Or at least had a team meeting to discuss who's going to be doing what?

@JustBananas my guilt has little to do with what the office is doing, I just know they don't have enough people. My office of 16 has had a turnover from Jan 2020 to now: My assistant died in Jan 2020, replaced by a guy who left the state to get married in 2021, replaced by a guy who decided to retire in July 2021. Out of 20 people, 8 people have left in the past 2 years and been replaced with 4 new people. And 2 weeks ago, my boss got promoted and is going to a different department and they haven't been able to hire anyone to replace him. I do have someone taking over my job who will also get my assistant to help him but it's frustrating to watch everyone trying to get up to speed and delaying my leaving since I have had to help with the transition much more than I would have if a bunch of people hadn't gotten fired all at once for not being vaccinated.

Well, hopefully your trainee and assistant will be ready in time, but since you bought them an extra month to learn and take over, I would hope that they would be up to speed by your final day. They should probably give your assistant a pay raise for taking on more. Please stand firm in your commitment to exit, though, as this business will continue long after you're gone, and you have your health (mental and physical) to care for. And it's also nice to have a retirement party for everyone -- gives them a break from the madness 🎈😊

Believe me: One you are gone that circle will close! A few people will keep in touch for a bit then the times in between when you hear from them will get longer unitl they just kinda forget you were even there. BUT you sound like a person to start your own circle!!! Much luck to you!
