But_first_coffee's Journal, 16 Apr 22

So, I'm fairly new to fatsecret and I've not done a challenge. I joined because although I track my foods on my fitness pal, I was hoping for a community to connect with. I'm still trying to figure out how the community works here though. Anyway this challenge is mostly over and I just figured out how to post in the mini challenges Lol. Please add me as a friend if you'd like. Any tips on how to navigate would be much appreciated!

Good luck. I have been on this for about a month and in the last 3 weeks I haven't lost a single pound. I'd like to know how people are losing. I eat better and less and do my exercise bike daily but nothing has worked. Talk about discouraging!

Welcome. Hope you will like it here. Do you use the web? There is a web version and then an app version. Challenges can only be found on the web. I think most people use the web though. Navigation is not easiest here. I think what most people do is post in their journals.. respond there and also post on other people's journals when they have time. This is a great place though. People are very encouraging.

@tastrayer, all I'm doing is tracking everything I eat and trying to stay at or below 1200 calories. I'm really short so that's a good starting place for me. Look up a TDEE calculator and you can figure out your calorie range. There are a lot of "diet plans" you could use but this seems the simplest to me. I think it's basically called CICO, calories in calories out. @liv001, I'm using the web version. I actually started my account a while back just haven't been consistent and couldn't figure out how to post in the feed. Didn't realize it came from posting a journal.... I'm going to try to be more consistent. I really need to get this weight off.

Most people use the app... I should have said. I use both. Yeah it is a bit hard to get used to how this work... but once you get into in it is fine. You can click on user name and find their posts... Just find people and jump in and things will work out...

But_first_coffee I keep my calories about the same as you, but again, it doesn't seem to help. When I signed onto this, for my age and height it said I should do 2000 calories..omg there is no way I would do that. I think some people are just destined to not be able to lose, but best of luck on your weight loss journey!

When I started weight loss before joining FS - I thought like this - "If I want to be a 135 woman then I have to eat like a 135 pound woman" and so I researched what foods and CI - calorie intake - and the required macros - (how much fat-protein-fibre-etc) that is required for a 135 pound woman. @ Tastrayer - done correctly - eating with a Healthy Food Plan does so work for most unless the person has underlying medically associated diseases or difficulties. Anyway that is how I began.

There has not been one day where I had any interest in feeding a 210 pound woman - I started eating for the 135 pound woman - I had and have no interest at all in feeding 210 pounds for my life. I am not "feeding" the fat any more - I am eating that stored fat energy.

Everyone is an individual - it is difficult to find one other person who shares the same statistics - same height - bone structure - metabolism - food supply - lifestyle - so weight loss is highly individual. If you look up on line - and input "google" - how many calories per day does a person (your expected weight) require per day - and start there - research what is particular to you and your life.

Every pound of stored fat energy - I have used only based on the 1,100 calorie intake - not one other calorie intake works for me for weight loss - Nothing else works for me. Every single pound that I lost was entirely based on a long term Calorie intake of 1,100 --- and no exercise - not even walking until 150 pounds - I have no interest in feeding 210 pounds or "whipping" that fat into good physical condition - none at all.

I choose to look up on 4 reputable websites what the calories and protein for me and my weight would be from woman-current weight-height. So I changed the RDI on fat secret to match that. The RDI recommended daily intake for me is 1200-1600 calories per day.

@jergens123, I agree! I am also 65 yr old and my starting weight is close to what yours was. I am shorter (5') so I have a lower goal weight. I'm just trying to stay in calorie range and eat primarily lean protein, fruit and veg. I'm not restricting any foods if I really want them, just making sure it fits into my calories for the day. It's working for me so far. :)

A low calorie intake of 1,100 food plan - in our culture or civilization - with a smorgasbord of available market goods - is a bit like "arm wrestling with the devil" every day.

I do care --- I may have a heart of stone but I really do care! Do not give up and seek a positive source of information - your own health is highly important. We should nations of strong and healthy people. There is no reason not to have strong people.

You are a very good thinking person. And. So glad you are losing weight at the pace you have planned.

Tasstrayor. I am losing weight slowly, as expected. I eat within my calorie 1200-1600 range. 35% protein. Vegetables or Vegetable daily. And lots of water. for my basics. - I am not putting any extra pressure on myself. It will be a long journey. I am expecting to lose my weight in about 3 years.

Welcome aboard! I have been here a couple times before and didn't even know about the community. I have been here over a year this time and I have been successful! I LOVE learning new things from the people on this site! Tips for changes in diet, tips for workouts, tips for cooking and recipes to try all keep me coming back.... And the support is phenomenal. (Be aware not EVERYONE on here is nice, but MOST are very encouraging and helpful during your rough patches) I have never joined a challenge either - too scared. Maybe you have inspired me to try one..... we'll see..... Anyhoo - glad you're here and I LOVE your bio!

But First Coffee - (always a good idea) it is all about portion control - finding your own niche - FS recommended RDI for me was 1300 but I know for a fact that I do not lose weight while eating 1300 calories per day. A variety of healthier food choices helps to ensure that a person stays on track - since on a lower CI - there is not the available bulk of foods ensuring that a person gains all of their nutritional requirements. Like - I can eat hot dogs and drink Rye and lose weight - but none of my nutritional requirements are met so I end up slimmer but not healthy. It is all about portion control within a daily Calorie deficit with healthier food choices - not a diet but a Food Plan for life. The FS members who are some of the biggest losers - made entire food plan changes - for their life. The fad diet to temporarily lose 15 pounds to fit into your skinny dress for a future party does not exist here!

As Diana 1234 stated ... "Welcome to FS" - pick and choose what works best for you - and there are many well informed and educated individuals here from all walks of life ---- if you have any questions or require support --- all you have to do is ask!
