Looks as if the ham was a little saltier than I'd thought. :) This may sound really odd, but I'm almost missing the discipline of losing weight. I've been on a slow gain for the last 7 weeks for weight lifting strength and muscle gain. The strength gains are real, but there's really no way of knowing about the muscle without losing the fat that comes with the gain. Over the period that I consider stable hydration, I've gained 8 pounds in 6 weeks. Just about perfect, but I'm getting antsy. I have a bit of a plan to see if I can slow the gain down over the next week. If it seems to work, I may continue with the gain to the end of May. If not, I will be back with you guys to lose some fat. I hope you're all willing to listen to me whine some more. :)

Isn't there some thing that measures fat that you can tell if it's decreasing although the weight is increasing w/the muscle?

Checkout a caliper. But many of the guys are using the Tanita scale which is supposed to give you a pretty good readout of fat/muscle/water. I think. Maybe Bill or Bruce can help you with that.

Caliper works, so do the fancy scales, so do photos which show your definition, but none of them are exact. The calipers are subject to variance of the way each body stores fat. Scales work on electrical resistance so electrolyte and salt levels affect them. Photos are likely about the best, but it takes some judgment and it really only works once you start seeing definition. The biggest thing is to be happy with what you're seeing. My particular approach is to use definition as an indicator as to when to diet down again. I'm quite convinced now I'm at about 15% body fat. I think I'll be cutting as soon as I hit 180, but we'll have to see. My guess is with an 8 pound gain I'm looking at around a 3 pound increase in muscle mass.

LOL, @NM! You're doing GREAT! Don't despair, it's all in the plan.
