Low intensity cardio, like walking, burns a higher percentage of calories from fat than high intensity cardio does, but it burns less calories in total. So your PT is correct, resistance training will build or at least help maintain muscle mass whilst low intensity cardio will burn a low number of calories mainly from fat. Unless you are on a large deficit of calories consumed, what your PT has given you is a solid but slow and steady approach. PS Fat is fat and muscle is muscle, you can’t turn one into the other.

Thank you bestbefore1989 .. usually do 45 mins a day incline 6.5 at speed 6.5 walking (treadmill)And 2 days with PT .. chest/back & shoulders arms ? Some days do cross trainer 40 mins ( more intense ) what do you recon and would you change anything.. 🤔

Yes, if you are only doing resistance training twice a week I would change to a upper / lower body split. Your biceps get trained as a secondary muscle group when you train back (Pull ups, Rows etc) and your shoulders and triceps will get trained as a secondary muscle group when you train chest ( Bench Press, Dips, Incline Bench or better Over Head Press etc). Legs are 50% of your body and you can add plenty of muscle mass with squats, dead lifts etc, heavy compound movements don't just add muscle mass they fire up your hormone production and ramp up your metabolism.

Good advice .. I tend to not train my legs as I have a hip problem ( tear in my hip joint + arthritis) which restricts me .. if I could just lose my stomach fat and build my chest & arms I’d be happy .. I’m 5 ‘11 and currently 84.5 kg .. of muscular build .. if I lose weight I get told I’m ill looking - finding building muscle taking AGES ?😭..that’s why I went in the direction of getting a PT ..
