Well, in this case it's not all that amazing. I had a little more than a 1200 calorie deficit. But, it's not that easy and I'm speaking from my own experience. I'm amazed many times at the results of a day's eating. There are so many factors involved in weight control. I'm in maintenance so I like to think of it as fat control. Sometimes I eat "Poorly" which for me is over 120% of goal and sometimes I will gain a couple of pounds in a day. Other days I can eat the same number of calories and remain the same weight. It all depends on many other factors. The two factors that seem to have the most influence for me are activity and carb intake. I have especially noticed this since I joined a gym about nine months ago. Crunching the data I collect here reveals a lot and is very helpful to me...

@John Do you find your weight drops when you have accelerated your exercise? My weight fluctuates due to carb intake and activity also. Recently, I began adding vegetable carbs to my diet and my weight is all over the place. I do try to measure and weigh my food as much as possible, but sometimes it isn't possible. I wish you continued good luck during your maintenance phase.
