Day 2 of 3 days of eating

Wow, even though I took in >70 carbs, I did not gain a pound yesterday :) However, I know that the 'water fluctuations' work both ways. Last week when I was not losing, while fasting, I know the scale "Lies Lies Lies". Anyway, I will take the 'win'.

Today is the important day. The big change is that this weekend I do not feel I 'deserve' to go on a 'carb fest' because I just finished a 5 day (Sunday Night-Friday night) 'water fast'.

My wife and I walked to the store and bought turnips, ground beef, ribs, and cheese to eat this weekend (we walk 45 minutes everyday - also she is starting Keto this week!). So the first change is to eat 'real food' rather than processed low carb breads and treats (other than a planned bag of Quest chips and my Quest protein powder (Nectar of the Gods!)).

I also plan to 'fast' until 3:00pm today. But, I am really bad at IF (Intermediate Fasting) so if I pull this one off it will be a miracle.

Tomorrow we are going to a pool party. There will be a ton of bread, chips, ect. After much discussion, my wife and I decided we will simply not eat at the event. No one else will notice or care, but at similar parties in past weeks I have gained 4 pounds in one day that took more than a week of fasting to come off.

The goal for this weekend refeeding is to not gain weight! @jimmiepop is watching! #stillgrindtime #stayhungry #getserious #mindset

That's great your wife has joined you in this journey. It will be easier now that both of you are in it, even if you're not doing the exact same WOE. I think I picked up your not -eaten extra carbs! It's okay because they are "birthday " carbs and we all now those don't count. Good strategy for attending those parties. Eating before sure makes a difference. Also, keep appropriate snacks for both you and your wife in the car and/or in her purse for those times when food that doesn't fit in with your WOE isn't available. Have a wonderful weekend!

@Becc@ - Enjoy your birthday! Yes, those carbs DO NOT count! :) :) At a pool party a few weeks ago I ate before and had low carb snacks in her purse. However, I still broke down because I guy brought an apple pie. If I am on a fast, for some reason I can avoid ALL temptation, but that fast must start in the morning and be unbroken. Perhaps it is a blood sugar (falling) thing with me? - - As far as my wife and her journey, the irony is that she is the one that started me fasting. She would do 1-2 days but then stop. I 'tried' it to support her and then got all 'analytic' about it and started reading books and then going 5-11 days. She kept trying, but she does 1-2 days but always quits as soon as she feels 'weak' or 'hunger' sets in (I know it will pass and that I have no other diet options that work for me so I will go for a run and stay with the fast). Anyway, I told her that there are a ton of people On FS that get better long term results than I do just doing Keto. And 'they' get to 'eat' EVERY DAY :) We live in Los Angeles and EVERONE is doing Keto (I mean EVERYONE). So she got a Keto book, plans to read it today and start this week. She has lost a lot of weight already just cutting calories, but naturally she hits a plateau while watching me literally shrink in size, so she decided to 'up her game' (my weight scale has been up and down, but the mirror shows a constant decrease in body size).

I think it is awesome your wife is going keto. I am sure she will make some awesome food to tempt you away from the bad choices. when you have great food in front of you it makes it so much easier. If you have to fast before the party, go for it. what ever works with your mind set/

I also think the big change you mentioned really IS big - "deserve" a "carb fest" is such a common way of thinking and that you no longer feel that way is big! You've broken through from what memories and commercials and tv shows and even brain biology tells you to want... to what you're body and mind really needs: you deserve healthy food always, food that makes you feel and function as perfectly as possible! You deserve to be as happy and healthy as you can be:) I hope you have a great time at the party and a lot of fun as your wife shifts gears into keto! Would love my hubby to join me - he prefers to eat with me and add all the other stuff in too. For his sake, I'd like him to shift gears. For my sake, at least he does it at work or when I'm not in the kitchen!

@baskington - Yes, I hope that if the house is filled with Keto friendly foods that I will eat better when I am eating. I am very lucky that my wife has been really supportive. She walks with me 45 minutes every day and even drinks bone broth soup with me most nights for dinner when I'm fasting. She complained a lot about my extended fasting because she thought I was going to die, but now that it has been months she finally stopped complaining :) - - I actually have not found out what 'works for me' regarding these 6 hour long pool parties yet. Each time in the past has been a 'total fail' :( So, I am only *trying* to see if a 'total fast before and during' will work... :)

Hey Ade. Good for you and your wife. I'm still solo in my household with my woe but it's all good. Since you can't control it once you but the chips in your mouth like me, it's better not even to touch it. Happy Saturday my buddy.

@VAM49 - Your husband may be like me, I am just not motivated enough to stick to Keto. However, I can fast and 'try' to Keto on weekends :) Also, I am such a 'hard head' that it has literally taken MONTHS of fasting for me to get to this point where I am willing to let go of the "I deserve" mindset and be "grateful" for the ability to eat 'real' and 'healthy' food. I should be so grateful I can just walk to the store and buy virtually anything! We live in Los Angles and have those insanely large super markets that have such a variety that the only real problem is you have to cover so much ground just to find anything. The produce section in our market is the size of a normal entire store (this place is so large there is an elevator and a full restaurant inside it). When we finally found the turnips we were looking for it was like now what type? (there were 6 options). Most people in the world don't have all these options, and I just squander them :(

It's easy to fall back into the, "eff it, I'm eating because I earned it" mindset. Blah, me and you are a lot alike, adef, I wouldn't be surprised if you were a Taurus, too. lol

@chesgreen - Hey man (I was just about to text you)! Yeah, looking at these past months, what works for me is 'abstaining'. 'Controlling', 'moderating' are things that don't seem to work out so well with me :( Anyway, I know you're on vacation, but I hope you are able to journal. You don't have to weight until you're ready (believe me, I understand!) but, stay close!

@Phil - I'm a Virgo, we're not hard headed, we just whine a lot :)

So glad for all of us for thinking healthy and trying so hard! 💪🏼 Perseverance and encouragement are key. Re: the pool party...prior to an event... I drink 3/4 Cup of almond Milk WITH ...1 scoop of Collagen powder and a tablespoon of Coconut oil. This fills me up tremendously and the other foods are no longer as enticing. Side note...you have to work up to 1 tbls of Coconut Oil or it will make your tummy sick. Start with 1 tsp and gradually increase. But Collagen powder is also key. To all...Collagen powder really helps your skin with weight loss. It tightens it as your fat is melting off. Kudos to all on the site!! 💪🏼👏🏼👍🏼May you have a blessed and healthy weekend!! 😎😇

So, my one go to tip for controlling myself during outings might not be useful for you.....I wear a control garment. The cinching in at the waist makes overeating more uncomfortable so that I am mindful of it. Best of luck to you. Have fun!

I’m so happy to hear that your wife is joining you! You guys being on the same page will help; not just your diet but bonding too 💑 I hope you guys hold strong for that party. That is really rough but you can do it! Oh and 1 tip for your wife; if possible fast the day before she starts Keto. They say it helps you transition. And you already know if she has any questions, there are dozens of us ketoers on FS here to help :D

@CrashtestDawnie - She is at work today, but it must be slow because she finished the book and just sent me a long email of all her Keto diet plans :) She plans to fast with me Monday-Friday this week to 'get started' and then start the Keto diet on Friday. The best thing for our relationship is the daily walks. Talking to your partner for 45 minutes a day strengthens your relationship.

@Cb1006 - I am now happy my wife loves to eat the Quest Chips because I need to get those damn things out of the house! Things that taste as good as Doritos get consumed as much as Doritos... :(

That sounds like an awesome plan! And hardcore af!! I still can’t wrap my head around that many days yet lol

I ordered a bag of quest chips too. I’m saving them for my road trip. I think they were 2.50. I didn’t realize I ordered such a tiny bag until I got it. Can’t wait to try them!

@adef, we're on L.A. celebrating our daughter's birthday, my mother's bday and my birthday! I was born and raised in Los Angeles, eastside/San Gabe Valley , so was my husband. We live in New Mexico now, but come back to visit family and friends often. Unfortunately, the main reason we are in town is to attend my uncle's celebration of life services. 😟 Sounds like your wife has got this down already. 👍😊
